Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
Hiya!
Finally got the Blofeld in the mail today.. I have been toying with it for the last few hours and decided to try throw together a little sumpthin.
So here's a quickie, I just threw together a tune, not using more than drums+1 synth from the Fantom G and 3 parts of blofeld and the soundscape was full. Still tons of polyphony to go.
So here's the quickie, took me 15 mins from nothing to mastered mp3:

The crackling sound in the end is the Fantom G USB drivers still not working.
Ya ya.. back to playing with the new toy!

Re: Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
It's sequenced on the Fantom G.
Tracks 1 & 2 is the G internal sounds, tracks 3-5 control the external device midi channels 1,2 and 3.
I was using MSB 0-7 to switch between the banks A-H of the blofeld (it has 8x128 patches).
I have a tiny bit of PFX lofi compressor on the + MFX Super Flt + studio reverb on the drums, to give it a lil twack and ass, else rest is dry, didn't have time to tweak effects cause GF was cooking dinner.

Re: Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
Dude that sounds so sick.
Reminds me of a little of Laidback Luke/Federico Franchi - who I love!
Which parts were made on which device?

I thought I wrote that in my last post, but looks like I managed to edit it out
hahah, anyways:
Drums + a background synth are from the Fantom G
main lead + 2 other smaller synth from the Blofeld
I tweaked the filter live while recording...
The crackling noise around 0:42 is the Fantom G USB driver doing its regular dropouts.

Jessej,
I love that dirty groove!
"Drums + a background synth are from the Fantom G

Great FG sounds! What did you do with Waldorf Blofeld?

Re: Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
sounded great- too bad it didn't have a wider stereo image
Re: Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
Oh wow, thanks for all the nice comments!
I edited my post... The latter 'G' should have been 'Blofeld'..
Here's a little blog I wrote about the whole blofeld/G thang yesterday: http://jessestudio.blogspot.com/

True! But I address those things at mixing and mastering. I try to keep the creation/recording process fun, simple, dirty & down to earth!
I made 3 more parts to the song today and gonna take it down to Cubase track by track and mix when I have time. In fact I bounced down tracks last night, but I guess I never saved them to the USB stick, still learning I guess.. it's a new system to me.
I'd love if Roland would simplify the bouncing process. A "Render all tracks to USB" batch function. Now we have to do it manually, and there is not even a solo button.. :/
Also, what tools would you use for widening? Plugin in general and of the built-in effects of the G?

Re: Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
very nice... that thing is impressive...
Re: Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
I haven't even listened to this yet and I'm telling you I want both of these pieces of gear!
Re: Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
I know it may sound stupid but does it come bundled with any pc/mac software? That lil' thingy looks so fragile I cannot think of putting in other place but next to the computer...
Re: Fantom G + Waldorf Blofeld test
The Blofeld is absolutely not fragile! It weighs a ton and is made out of a thick sheet of metal. The feel is.. well.. German design. Think Mercedes-Benz car doors feel!
The Blofeld came with a CD that had The Waldorf Edition LE on it. This I didn't even know, so it was a very nice surprize!
The Waldorf Edition LE is a VST and AudioUnit plug-in suite for Windows and Mac OS X consisting of three instruments and effects:
Attack Drum Synthesizer LE
D-Pole Filter Module
PPG Wave 2.V Wavetable Synthesizer LE
All three are very useful, I specially like the Attack very much and the PPG is a classic. The D-pole is also great, but I've fallen in love with the Image Line Love filter plus I have the Korg Legacy and the MS-20 filter that I find very very sexy (Specially because I can get hands-on with the MS-20 controller)
As of right now I am downloading a Blofeld Editor that is being developed by a user. It looks very promising (now ver 1.03) and has a librarian and a patch/multi editor, plus randomizer fuctions for parameter groups. Looks like it is developed in a fast pace. Also the Waldorf user community is very smart and strong and helpful.
When I have it connected as external device, the Fantom G becomes a natural beast. Specially live mode.. wow.. 16 internal sounds with effects, plus the external box with it's 16-parts and effects coming in via the Fantom G input effects. All with splits and controls (almost) at your fingertips. Only thing that I would like to change is that the G controls could send CC on different independent MIDI channels... you can see my wishlist post about that.
Did I tell how intuitive the Blofeld is to use?
