Which pianos are in the RD-700GX?

Post by wes.brook »

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here knows which pianos were sampled for the "One Touch" pianos in the RD-700GX. I have tried searching on-line but cannot find the answer.

The three I have in mind are:

Expressive Grand
Superior Grand
Ultimate Grand

My favourite is Superior Grand :-) Really smooth tone, not too sharp, but not too subtle either.

Cheers!

AFAIK, Roland has never made public the maker and models of the pianos sampled for the RD. I recall though having read somewhere that the "Expressive" were sampled from an European piano (maybe a Bosendorfer?), the "Superior" from an American piano (Stenway), and the "Ultimate" from a Japanese one (maybe Yamaha). But these could be mere conjectures. Nevertheless, I also have a motif XS and the Yamaha's grand piano patch (sampled from a Yamaha CF3) and the RD's Ultimate are quite simmilar (more than the Expressive and the Superior).

Yes, thanks shadowfax.

I had thought myself it might be the other way round:

Expressive - Yamaha (C6?); brighter, rock type.
Superior - Steinway (D?); middle in terms of tone.
Ultimate - Bosendorfer; very subtle, ballad type.

Of course I could be totally wrong ;-D

Would still be interested to know if anyone knows for sure.

EDIT: Your studio must rock! RD & XS together: dream combo!

Actually, there's virtually nothing more than the RD and the XS in my studio :P But yes, they complement very well each other, though.
