I'm like you, can't quite decide. Here's what I've worked out:

RD700SX -
  • Huge range of sounds
You can use two SRX Boards
Drawbar settings can be changed live for the organs
    it's a great stage piano
    Aftertouch I think
    Built in PSU
FP7
  • Cheaper (tho less sounds and no SRX) - perhaps if it was £899 or £999 it would be a steal
Nice stand (you need a stand for the RD)
    Lighter I believe
    Onboard Speakers
No difference in action, as far as I can detect - both actions are the perfect action for me.
Ditto the main piano preset. Fp7 has what you need, but you can't add to it, less you have a module. I'd have to sell my FXR to help get either. That's a problem.

I'd say the FP7 is the IDEAL home piano with some stage ability too. It's my choice. I don't really need all that the RD offers, but I wouldn't be upset to own one either.

So for me, it's down, for you, to how many sounds do you need, and what you're using it for. the RD is definitely one of the best stage pianos to be made by the main manufacturers in a long while. The FP7 is the perfect in-between Piano. I'm DYING to get one, if I can work out my finances.

FP7 for me. Based on one day's fiddling.

Rob

In terms of action, i prefer the FP7 as I feel the action is a bit quicker, at least to me. Action and sound quality are such personal preferences and it would be ideal for you to test and decide for yourself. In terms of sound, the RD700Sx has more which may be advantageous, in terms of which is better I think the RD700SX sounds a bit better to me but remember things can effect sound quality like sound system, keyboard settings ect. If you have the chance try both out and see for yourself. In the end no one's opinion is more important than yours.

I had another go yesterday, this time on both machines.

the action on the FP7 is definitely better IMO. Not that much in it, but it just feels RIGHT.

Also, if you add in one of the compressor style effects it comes to life big style.. and so I couldn't detect a "betterness" in the RD700 vs the FP7,piano sound wise.

I'm not even considering the RD700sx to be honest.

Rob
