Recently got my MC-808 -first piece of gear ever besides my computer and FL. I am trying to figure out how to use this thing but I am running into a couple of issues.
1. Midi import/export: I can export a pattern no problem and import it into FL- everything looks great and plays great if I use the internal sound generator on FL, but if I sync with the 808 as slave the timing goes off. When a beat looks like this:
|_ _ _ _ _ _ _|
it sound like this
| _ _ _ _ _ _ _|
When I try to save the midi file on my computer sequencer and import it back into the 808 I only get the first channel. Keep in mind this is the exact same file that the 808 generated just with a couple of note changes. Strange.
2. Also I bought my 808 used and didn't get the included editor software for my pc. Does anyone know where I can download it? I can't find it on the Roland site.
Any insights would be most welcome.
Thanks,
xp

Re: Newbie Questions
Hi xp,
for downloading the software have a look at the mc-808-faq here on this site.
For the midi export make sure all parts are included in the export (e.g. by loading into some other software)...
For the sync prob i do not get the point: Do you want to play the mc-808 from fl studio? If so set the track destinations to the midi interface of the mc-808.
Ciao, Dirk.

Re: Newbie Questions
Hi all,
I think what he wants is to use the mc 808 as the external sequencer for FL and have sounds from 808 too. If this is the case, then it is very simple. The computers latency (midi message IN -> software processing -> audio out) is bigger than that of the 808's latency (808 sequence info -> processing-> audio out). So you hear the sounds coming from FL a little later, they aren't off beat just annoying. I will buy next week the Muse research receptor and will see if that latency is bugging too. You can drop some milliseconds of latency by using ASIO driver (free or with a soundcard provided) but you will still hear a difference.
cheers
