Hi,

I'm in Canada - I'm leaving for a tour of Europe this week, and 1 of my pieces of gear is a Roland V-Synth-XT.

I'm bringing a power converter, but I'd like to plug things in directly, where possible. I have a Euro-style grounded plug, that would fit the XT - wondering if I can use that?

Normally I wouldn't think so at all, but in the manual it says:
"Power Supply: AC 115 V, AC 117 V, AC 220 V, AC 230 V, AC 240 V (50/60 Hz)"
...although it is unclear if that is auto switching, or different models, or internal switch or what.

Anyone have any ideas? I will likely contact Roland, but they're closed today and I'm anxious to find out, since I leave in a couple of days.

Hi Jason,

First of all, welcome to the Clan!! I hope you like it here.

Unfortunately, they make several different models, each one with it's own fixed voltage...
Take a look to my old (2009) post about this topic.

You really need to use an 110/220 adapter hat can support at least 16W, otherwise you will blow the XT's power supply when connected in Europe.

The v-synth XT DOES have a switching power supply.
I bought a unit from Canada and i am in Australia (115v/240v) and i have tried this and it works!
you do not need a power converter.

yup! i can confirm this too as i brought my XT from Ireland to the US and it works fine. :)

I must be wrong then...
Mine says explicitly 230V AC. Normally when the power supplies are multi voltage, the label says 100-240 VAC or 100-230 VAC... not one specific voltage like 230 VAC or 115 VAC

Can you tell us what is written in the label above the Power connector in the back of your XT bought in Ireland?
Maybe a photo...

My label on the back says 117v but i am using it on a 220/230v line.
i don't think the label matters.

Also .. the manual specs show it accommodates all voltages..

I would be very surprised if pro gear was not auto switching...
touring bands would loose there gear going from one land to another..

Mine is in English, and it says explicitly "230 VAC".
The Manual says:

Power Supply
AC 115 V, AC 117 V, AC 220 V, AC 230 V, AC 240 V (50/60 Hz)
...which doesn't exactly mean that it will accept all those different voltages, but that are power supplies with each one of those sets, depending on the Country.


Regarding the touring bands, well...actually maybe almost all equipment support multi-voltage and multi- Frequency (50-60Hz), but that was not the rule a few years ago. Lots of voltage converters and alike were necessary.

sorry to drag this up again but did anyone try this with the first version of the vsynth ? it to seems to state all votages in the manual , wondering if anyone tried a 110 in 240 etc or if it has the same autoswitching psu as they xt etc

According to roland specs, it is also
AC 115 V, AC 117 V, AC 220 V, AC 230 V, AC 240 V (50/60 Hz)
so should work as with the XT

It works for both 110/220V power without converter for my V Synth GT.

What does it say on the sticker on the back of yours? I'm in Australia (240V) but I bought my GT from the US. I've been running it through a converter but if that's not needed it would be nice to be able to plug it in directly.

I'm at work atm so can't check, but I'm pretty sure that mine only mentions 110V on the sticker, so I was scared to use it without a converter.

Short version: You definitively don't need a converter.

Long version: I have the service manual for the v-synth GT and see that the part number for the internal power supply is LEA50F-5-SXRLD. This is for model sold anywhere in the world.

Looking at the LEA50F datasheet you will see that it is in fact rated for 85 to 264 v AC, 47 to 63hz. That pretty much guarantee that this will work everywhere.

...and 5/1/2 years later I finally found the courage to plug my GT into 240V directly, and it's working great. It only says 110V on the sticker on the back.

So thanks for that info, LA.

Shows how fanatical we can be about our Roland gear. Don't want to rush into risky behavior.
