Hi, I was wondering if the VariOS V-Producer software works under the intel based Macbooks. Is anyone using this setup? I was thinking about getting a VariOS, but I'm using a Macbook. I heard back in March that a program called Rosetta could be used, since the V-Producer works under that. Can anyone confirm?

I didn't hear Roland releasing a Universal Binary version of the VariOS software, so I can't tell for sure. But if V-Producer works under emulation, maybe it'll work.

I believe only the USB drivers are Universal Binary. The V-Producer should work under Rosetta emulation as long as the USB drivers are native. I don't have the VariOS to test though.

This one is a Universal Binary driver, so VariOS will be able to connect to an Intel Mac like your MacBook. And if you heard of V-Producer running under Rosetta (after all why would Roland release a UB driver if it didn't?), you'll be fine. I used 3 or 4 apps under Rosetta and it was quite okay - pretty usable at least.

Do you guys think I'll be able to integrat the VariOS with Logic? I heard that you can use the VariOS as a VST (I forget, might not be VST) or something that allows Logic to control the VariOS. That's what I mainly want to do.

Can someone explain how Rosetta works? I've never used it.

I never heard of a VST/AU interface for VariOS, but maybe the JP-8 and 303 models do work this way. They are not Universal as it appears, but if you can make Logic open under Rosetta (it's in the .app options) it will make it run notably slower but still will let you use these Power PC plugins.

But it seems that nothing has moved further in that direction, and some of our friends on the forum argue that there is not much to be be gained from such innovation.

it runs fine in tandem with my DAW(ableton) on my intel mac.

i don't see the point of making it a vst.


i would love to see some new synths to load into my variOS though
