...So I have never in my life used optical- whole new ball park. I'm trying to get a signal from my v-synth into my computer. I have my patchmix (I use an emu 1212m on my desktop) set up for 44.1 and an input set to adat 1/2 (stereo) inserted with a send to wave 1/2 (I just want to get some sound before I even try sending it to any asio channels)... but I get nothing. Nothing in the meters- zilch! And when I try to send to an asio channel and go into cubase's device setup (vst inputs), it doesn't even see that I have an adat channel, so I can't get cubase to recognize or become aware of the soundcards inputs so that I may select them for my audio channel to record... this is driving me nuts- I mean optical is supposed to be really good and clean- this sucks. WAAAA. HUGO- you have an emulator x and a V-synth, have you tried recording via optical. You are my only hope man. Please tell me you have a clue. I just spent $90 bucks on optical cables but I think I may have wasted my cash!

anti_pulse,
I haven't tried recording through the s/pdif yet, but I see from the specs of the 1212m card that the ADAT In/Out is switchable to s/pdif, and that you also have a dedicated s/pdif in/out. Are you using the right input?
Also, I think s/pdif only works at 48khz and above (not sure about this, though).
Does this help? Tell me how it goes..

Re: optical output/input trouble... Hugo??
Hi guys
I´ve been using my V with the coaxial output at the moment and it records very well. There is no problem working at 44.1 just make sure you match the sample rate in the V with the rate in cubase or whatever program your using. I would check your Inputs are activated (one of the menus think its VST inputs) in cubase as it will be a different channel to the ones you normally use. You might have to do some checking on the web site for your soundcard to see if they have anymore advice about setting up your particular card with spdif. The manuals are never very clear on these things they just say plug it in and all will be perfect which of course in the real world it never is.
cheers the Sherriff

You can set the sample rate on the V-Synth in [MODE] -> System -> I/O (I think), it's switchable between 44.1/48/96 KHz.

I have a simalar set-up, 1820 Studio X and CubaseSX3.
I've used the coax out of the V-synth into Cubase but not using fiber, but I think the problem may lie within the PatchMix DSP settingsand or Cubase setup?
Try a peak meter in all the strips to see where the siganl is coming in. Once this is known, then you can route the signal as required in patch mix and then in Cubase in VST connections-Inputs.
Have to go my daughter (almsost 3) is jumping on my chair while trying to play the V-synth with her foot while and trying to press all the buttons. It must be the weekend!!
Cheers

thanks, yeah, I had put a meter but I don't get any signal at all... this sucks cause all my other inputs are taken...

Re: optical output/input trouble... Hugo??
i've been using the optical out into my digi 001. i will never go back to using the analog outs for recording. it's SOOO clean when you record through optical. i don't know about cubase, but in pro tools i had to change my clock from internal to spdif(optical), but i also had to change the optical port on the 001 from adat to spdif. (it defaults to adat and won't recieve anything till it's switched to spdif ). also there might be a setting on your soundcard control panel to switch between optical and analog spdif.

AWWW YEAAAHHH....
Junk you fucking rock! That did the trick... I just have no idea why the card has to think I'm using the spdif/coax physical inputs... it has optical and spdif in the selections- so I would assume a guy could use the optical as adat as well as spdif, but to be able to choose the coaxial inputs for an optical signal is beyond me. Thanks a bunch man- that helped alot.... major fucking kudos to you. My girl was starting to get annoyed with my bitching for a second there.
