1 thing I just can't do on V-synth

I've had a couple of analog synths in my time, and one sound I like is the smooth filtered sine wave - no clicks attached on account of the A D S R settings. For the live of me - I can't achieve this smoothness on the v-synth - There's always a click or a pop when you try to get those LOW bass tones i.e. Studio electronics se1x or the moog synths. It was the same when I had a Juno, but the Juno was actually better with this, because I could get the clicks out. Now, when I use v-synths filtering, I actually can edit to the point of no clicks, but by the time I'm there, my beutiful bass tone is gone, and all I'm left with is a foggy bass sound. Any insight on this. Hey ART! - Have you by any chance this patch that eludes me? - thanks.

Yes, it's the thing I'd like to add to the FAQ, the solution is very easy: you do not have to increase the attack of the TVA envelope, you just need to get to the OSC Wave page and set the "Impact" parameter (bottom right corner) to 0.

Art, don't you already have this solution in the FAQ at 4.1?

Yes, of course, I remembered that. I added this to the FAQ back in fall 2004. Too bad not everybody reads it

I read it

2 bad it didn't work and there are still clicks and I've tried on 3 v-synths - HMMM

The only thing I can suggest is switch the TVA module on and try increasing Attach and Release a bit.

There is something weird about the first 50 samples or so on the analog oscs...
I heard this too, and recorded it and had a look at the waveform. I can't remember all that well, but it did not look right to me, as there is some odd noise at the beginning that messing with the impact control does not get rid of.
You could try using the 24db filter, setting it to pitch track 100% and lowering the frequency so the turnover is around the same frequency as the note's pitch.
Some cool bass patches use this sound. it would be nice if this and osc start sync was sorted though. The default sine on an AKAI s950 always did this sub sound best for me. There is just something about it....

Yeah, there is a little something going on here - I know what you mean. The clicks seems to vary in quality slightly with key velocity so sometimes more noticable (at higher velocities) than others. Totally unnoticable with some patches and something I can live with personally but I can see why this might not go down to well with everyone. Patch 067 Capital M is a good example of this "defect".
I had already reomved "impact" and started fiddling with A and R setting to help minimize this effect.
For me this device can take a few liberties (imperfections) given what this thing can do to sound.

I had pretty much decided that the sound genereation of "analogue" waves was not free running and therefore digitally generated on demand which occasionally gives rise to these artifacts depending on where the sample is in it's wave cycle.
Just speculation though as a result of what I am hearing.

tommymandel - no possibly not tweaked both osc. TVA's as well. Will dig around some more as for me this is early days.
Thanks.

OK, I have had a decent amount of time to familiarise myself with this really neat bit of kit and have a better understanding about these clicks.
The clicks occur when at note end another note is played i.e. in the release phase of the note when another note is played before the note has decayed to nothing. Sure, mucking about with the release setting of all 3 TVA's helps a lot but that does rather alter the sound in the process. If you can live with switching poly on and just playing monophonically well that helps a lot as it is much more prevalent when just playing monophonically. I edited and played around with "Physical Bass" patch for a while and a combinaton of release times (that arent zero) and switching to poly on pretty much gets rid of the problem. Only seems to happen with "analogue" waveforms tho' - maybe just less noticable with PCM?
Shame it happens at all because I like this particular patch which can produce a gut splitting bass !

rajajuju - tried changing setting of env time KF and velocity curves and every other parameter in the TVA screen and whereas some A R setting help it always clicks (quietly) if the given voice is retriggered prior to completing its TVA cycle. I mean dont get me wrong it is not a big deal but like the starter of the thread says if you are trying to get a really low basic simple sound going on then this clickyness is there. It really presents most with bass sounds and is noticable if you say hold an arpegiation - as it cycles round and gets to note stealing (if poly =on) sometimes it clicks.
The single biggest effect of minimizing this seems to be turning mono off & poly on as the same voice is not retriggered. This may be ok for some people.
The single biggest way of worsening clickyness is turn the TVA off, which seems to drastically exacerbate the effect, and leave an arpegiation on hold with a bass patch.
It definitely is happening when another note grabs a voice that has not finished sounding.
It's just not quite a perfect piece of kit in a very imperfect world......!

Hey Septimo ! - ( I see you are on line right now !) any comment on this thread you care to make? Would appreciate an opinion on this.
cheers.
