V-synth help needed PLEASE!!!

Post by ruifa »

Hi i have a friend who have a V-synth and he told me his synth isnt working fine, i decided to see whats going on and help him , so im gonna ask some (maybe stupid ) questions and appreciate if someone can give me some help please.
He told me that on his V-synth , sometimes the Assignalanble Controllers C1 and C2 dont work in all patches... ( i dont have a v-synth sorry ) so i ask : are all patches programmed to have C1 and C2 working ?
2nd question : he told me that on Patch 05 VA kit he wants to use OSC 1 and OSC 2 to lower the overall volume of the drum sequence but he lowered the volume of both OSC and still have sound... i ask is this patch using more than 1 part and the sounds we still hear are in other part and we only have access to lower the sound to 1 part at time ? how can we make this work ?
3rd question :
He told me his machine freezes and wont start up if he inserts his Flash card into V-synth at start up.... but it starts fine without the flash card inserted... i ask does V-synth needs to be started without flash card inserted ..? he uses kingston.

He is using Vers 2.0 , i think i readed something about this problem and think is related to version of the OS that the sounds in the card are ....right .. or no ??? i need more help please , please !
I have a Fantom X7 ! great machine , not so many tricks like V-synth :)

Best reagards and thanks to all who can help me !!!

Hello Ruifa.

Answers:

1) No, not all patches have C1 and C2 sliders assigned.

2) Yes, Patch 005 "VA KIT" is a multi-timbrel patch. Unlike the Fantom, the V-Synth stores all 16 timbrel settings in 16 different "Zones" of 1 patch. There is no Performance mode on the V-Synth, it's always multi-timbrel (if you define different sounds for the 16 different Zones that is). The VA KIT patch has a different percussion or tonal sound assigned to 16 different key ranges. That patch also contains an arpeggio which is on by default when that patch is selected so pressing any key produces the same rhythm at the same pitch. To change the volume of the 16 different instrument sounds he/she must touch the "MENU" item at the top left of the screen then touch "Zone." Touch the Zone number you want to edit the sound for then make the modifications to that one sound. Changes to that one sound only apply to that sound and none of the others. There is no global patch level that affects all 16 Zones unless you pipe the output of each Zone through the MFX processor and use that to control overall volume.

3) Possible causes of freeze on boot-up with a PC Card inserted:

* Extra large samples stored on that card. Try backing up the data to PC and formatting the card in the V-Synth to erase all the samples stored on that card.
* Capacity of CompactFlash or whatever media your friend is using is larger than the V-Synth can recognize (not sure the exact maximum but I would guess not bigger than 2 to 4 GB). Try a different capacity card.
* Improperly formatted media. Backup the contents of the card to PC then reformat the card in the V-Synth.
* Defective media. If formatting doesn't help and size isn't a problem, try a different card to see if the problem persists.
* Defective PC Card adapter. Try a different adapter.
* V-Synth is damaged. Though not likely, it's possible. If other storage cards and other PC Card adapters make no difference, there could be something wrong with the V-Synth.

Understood !

i Backed the V-synth OS 2.0 data , troyed to load at start up and its working fine . i think the problem was that the other data in the other card was pre OS 2.0 data ...maybe 1.0 or 1.5 so i guess this is the problem!

about the other problems its understood , really thanks for your great help Nathan !^

Best regards ,

Hi Ruifa.

Glad that fixed it. Yes, version 1.0 through 1.5 patches are not compatible with OS 2.0 and the waveforms in 2.0. Roland does make a special build of OS 2.0 which uses OS 1.5 waveforms and patches (but is not compatible with OS 2.0 patches, yet does contain the new features that are part of OS 2.0). This special version can be downloaded from the Roland US web site in the V-Synth Download section.
