Roland stops making the VC-2 card
I heard Roland is no longer making the VC-2.
It will only live in the v-synth XT and the VP-550
Get a card while you can.

Re: Roland stops making the VC-2 card
I heard it from a friend who went to NAMM and a Roland rep said that the VC-2 will no longer be sold.
I could be wrong, I can't find any proof on-line either.
I'm just glad I have my card.
Time will tell.

It's true!
No More VC-2!
I talked to a guy at guitar center and he looked into it and GC can't order a VC-2.
WOW!

What better way to boost demand than to make it unavailble or in short supply?
But it is still on sale on other sites so mabe they have a larger inventory?

Re: Roland stops making the VC-2 card
What a grotesque and hideous thing of Roland to do!!
I have no respect for this kind of behaviour, it's obvious that they do this to get people to buy their new keyboard, or maybe consider getting the V-Synth rack in addition to the synth.
I hope this is just a sick joke, or I'll lose a lot of respect for Roland (which is one of the companies I actually do have great respect for).

Re: Roland stops making the VC-2 card
Hugo, manufacturing and selling musical instruments is business, and multiple businesses meet on the market, they become competitors, each with it's own market share. If Roland stops moving because new gear may get some users into frustration, they will start loosing their share because other manufacturers will jump in with their new products. So Roland has no choice but to keep the pace and move on, develop new products. What's so bad in having a progress? Or you'd prefer everybody to stop back in 1960s when all you could normally afford is a 1 VCO, 1 VCF constantly detuning monosynth?
Re: Roland stops making the VC-2 card
If the VC-2 is dropped, will this mean no VC-3?

Re: Roland stops making the VC-2 card
the V is going to turn into onr of those hard to find "classics" with even harder to find expansion cards that didn't do well initially becuase of the price or some other reason but become some instrument that define some new genre of music- I can just see it happening.

Ditto that, pulse. There are lots of new sounds which only the V can give, namely the VariPhrase, envelope ring and SBF stuff. If I had to leave only one synth in my studio, that would be the V-Synth.
Re: Roland stops making the VC-2 card
Artemio,
that's not my point - I'm not saying they shouldn't develop new stuff, they should indeed. What I'm saying is this is a big disapointment to all V-Synth users, as the product is already there. Why pull it back? I understand it if it's due to poor sales, but for me it seems it's just a trick in order to get people to buy yet another keyboard.
Personally I'm running out of space, and therefore I love the concept of plug-in cards.

Re: Roland stops making the VC-2 card
It's nice to have plug-in cards, saves studio space. I hope this doesn't mean they're abandoning the idea of VC cards totally.
Roland should look at the long view -- VC cards are kind of like a 'subscription model' -- I could justify paying $200US or so every six months for a new virtual synth, as opposed to $2000 once every few years for a whole new keyboard.. it might make them more money in the long run to sell a VC-capable synth and then get people to buy many cards with different synthesis techniques?
What about the Vari/OS users? Isn't that machine totally reliant on cards for its functionality? (Guessing here, I have only read a bit about the Vari/OS module).
I hope Roland at least made 1 VC-2 card for every V-Synth and Vari/OS module they've sold. I ordered one online as soon as I read this news as I was planning to get one anyway, just not right now! I hope I can get one before they're gone. I wish they would have emailed all their registered users and given us a "last chance" period to order before stopping production.
Error 144 - Reboot? Y/N

Re: Roland stops making the VC-2 card
I suspect it would be because there are some glitches when using the VC-2.
However unless you heard this from Roland I wouldn't put a lot of stake in it being true. It's rare that GC employees are correct about anything.
