Released: V-Synth Cubase SX3 Device Panel

Post by robinez »

Hi all,

Here's my Christmas Present to the V-tribe community.

It took a long time but now i've found the time to finish the V-Synth Device Map for Cubase SX3.
Now finally it's ready for you all. I hope you like it.

There are several threads about device panels on this board. I suggest to use this thread to give your remarks about this panel. Use this thread also if you got any questions how it's done or if you just want to express your wishes about future functionality in the panel.

@Artemio: if you want you can add the panel to the download section of v-tribe, so that future users can find the map much easier.

Here's an image of the current version of the map: Screenshot: V-Synth Cubase Device Panel

You can download the map (install instructions included) here: V-Synth Cubase Device Panel

Merry Christmas to you all.

Regards,
Qui Robinez

Thanks a lot for your work! This will indeed be very helpful for many people who use Cubase.

Of course I'll include this on our site. Thanks again and happy holidays to you too!

firrrrrrst! thank you!
then a question, how do you get both ports with one physical asio output from the v-synth? the output for the external instrument and the output for nuendo/sx ? or did you manage this in an other way?
is it possibile to make bottens with funktion "on" more glowing?
merry christmas time to you all! jan

Thanks a million ... this is great!!!
Now we can automate most params without using slots in the mod matrix.
I'm too lazy to look at the manual but do you know if the individual arp steps can be set using SYSEX similar to how you do the mod sequencers?

Also, anyone know if there is an online repository of device maps for Cubase. I'm surprised Steinberg don't offer one similar to how NI do the user lib for Reaktor.

Cheers,

I'm using the vsynth xt with a couple of adat converters, where al my hardware is connected to. If you are not capable of setting up hardware synths in cubase due to your specific setup, you can use the map without it's beeing connected to a synth. Just select the correct midi out in the device map and open it manually.

The glowing on / off buttons are not possible. I'm limited to the possibilities cubase offers with these knobs. I could enhance the turning knobs so that it looks like there is a glowing light behind them. I will think about that for a future version.

The individual arp steps could be automated as far as i know. I could implement it, but i don't see the use of it in a cubase project. If you just want to use it for your arp patterns then use the modulator a instead and connect it to the osc1 or osc2 pitch.

To answer your question about the online repository of device maps from cubase, you can find them here: Cubase Device Maps
These are all custom made panels by users of cubase.

I have some other panels to available for anyone who's interested, like the promega 3 , korg karma, jp8000 panels. If you want one of these just let me know.

Hey- just wondering- when I turn knobs on the device panel's interface, I get ALOT of other random knobs turning... I understand that it doesn't matter if the lfo for PCM changes as well when I turn the lfo for the analog waveform in one oscillator, due to the fact that I'm not using the PCM waveform at the moment... but I get weird anonymous synchronised changes- like when I change the pitch for oscillator 1, it changes the pitch in my second oscillator as well in the panel, but while I "twist" the knob on the panel it only effects the first osc in my actual keyboard... which is fine but it makes programming absolutely confusing, because the the interface looks like it's set one way for certain paremeters, but it really isn't. Just thought I would report the bug for you for your next version... by the way this is really sweet! I'm guessing there is no way to change what paremeters are being used with the step modulator via midi huh, or else you probably would have already done it I'm sure (I suppose it's not really nessicary considering most people actually program their patches before automating them in cubase). Thanks rob.

@anti_pulse
you are right that some knobs seems to influence others. This is due to the fact that the v-synth uses same sysex strings for several parameters. If every knob or function had his own sysex string implementation this behaviour would not occur. But this is not the case in the V-synth sysex implementation.

the device map is definitly not one way. If for instance set your midi in on that channel to midi all of the vsynth in channel, then every knob you turn on the vsynth will communicate with the editor. The device editor listens to your sysex strings you are sending, every sysex string that is identical in the sysex implementation responds to that movement.

let me clarify that:
if you look at the sysex messages of the osc 2 pcm and analog knobs you will see that they are identical in the implementation:

OSC 2 Analog Pitch
F0 41 10 00 53 12 10 00 10 48 xx checksum F7

OSC 2 PCM Pitch
F0 41 10 00 53 12 10 00 10 48 xx checksum F7

Because i don't know in the device map how the sound is build up, you got both knobs available on the screen. You could use just 1 knob. However, i'm using it a lot with the project automation. I prefer to have the parameters name on my projectwindow. That's why both knobs are drawn.

I've tested the behaviour of the pitch controls of the oscs and it seems there are some errors with it. Thanks for mentioning those. I will fix it this weekend.

Panel working with Cubase SE?

Post by beatrunner »

hi all

thousand thanks to robinez....

question from a Cubase SE user: does your panel works with my cubase version?

I was wondering yesterday evening that cubase does not record my OSC-Knob-Tweaking cause they does not send midi message....

thanks
