I personally see the D-50 as the ancestor of all S&S based synths (romplers), which Roland called LA-synthese. The JV, XP, XV and Fantom's are the succesors...right? In other words, if I would like to have the Native Dance preset, I could sample the raw D-50 and use it in the Fantom.....so I'm wondering if the VC-1 is interesting enough for V-Synth users when you already have a Fantom-X

Is the VC-1 interesting when using a Fantom-X?
Re: Is the VC-1 interesting when using a Fantom-X?
TC, VC-1 is very different from the Fantoms engine. Some of the LA engine features were dropped in time, and some other new features introduced, so now the LA/Fantom comparison is nonsense - they have different possibilities and totally different sound.
VC-1 is a very interesting synth. Among the four engines that I use (Fantom-S, V-Synth, VC-1 and ALSA Modular), this little beast has the most character that makes me cry when I make the sounds.
The things that make the VC-1 different from Fantom and other newer S+S engines are:
- It has variable synth waveforms, with rich spectrum and PWM
- It's low-pass filter is a darned original one, you can't get this killer warm and nasty sound anywhere else
- PCM waves and processing is done in low-bit domain giving the sound that vintage harshness which makes your heart beat faster
You can hear some of the examples of my VC-1 sounds at:

hte LA saw and square waves are awesome to use, i might buy a D -50 sometime soon, i love the VC2 though

Art, thanks. It's a long time ago I played on a D-50, can't remember it's sound anymore other than that I liked it
Btw: the Sound on Sound magazine was very positive about the VC-1, as well as the VC-2.
