Having a problem getting any analog osc wave's pulse width to track the keyboard properly. It seems as though the waves are divided into octaves and that the tracking only works per octave (or within that octave). This is really annoying. I've had the same problem when using osc sync - seems to reset every octave. Even basic VAs can do this.
Has anyone else experienced this behaviour?
Pulse Wave Tracking and Osc Sync Issues
Re: Pulse Wave Tracking and Osc Sync Issues
Hey - anyone read this post? Help - I'd love to be able to say that I'm doing something wrong, but I can't seem to find any other workaround.
Again - is anyone else having problems trying to get the analog oscillators' pulse width to track the keyboard properly? The same applies to osc. sync.
Anyone? Is this a bug or not?

Hi calyx93.
I haven't yet experienced this. However, I don't use OSC sync much. Which version of the V-Synth OS are you using? Are you on the XT or the original V-Synth?

Re: Pulse Wave Tracking and Osc Sync Issues
Hi Nathan - I'm using 2.0 on the V-Synth keyboard.
Here's a good way of trying out this bug:
+ Activate only one analog oscillator - nothing else
+ Set it to any waveform
+ Set the pulse width to 0, and zero any PWM functions
+ Set the key follow to 100
+ Play every key of an octave or two sequentially
+ Notice how the pulse width only changes within octaves, not accross the entire keyboard - as it should be doing.
Now try the same type of experiment with osc sync - just a typical setup that you'd have for any sync patch using two osc's on an analog or VA. The same thing happens within the individual octaves!
Does this mean that this isn't really VA, but sampled osc's? My ESQ-1 and SQ-80 use sampled oscillators and don't suffer from this type of problem when doing osc sync or fake "pwm" using sync.

Re: Pulse Wave Tracking and Osc Sync Issues
When you set keyfollow to +100, this means that pulse width will reach it's maximun/minimum values one octave higher/lower C4. When pulse width is at -63 or +63, you get a narrow pulse and getting it even more narrow is useless, it's almost no sound. So just set PW KF to +30 or so and this will give you the PW changed across 6 octaves (+/- 3 from C4) at least.
Thanks!
Ahh - I feel like an idiot now. I see now that adjusting the pulse width, then changing the keytracking really does work - takes a little twiddling to get it to change from a hollow square at C1 to narrow pulse at C6. For some reason, it didn't seem obvious. Now to try something similar with osc sync.
Thanks Artemio! Hey, I've finished a few PPG-based patches for the V-Synth. They're not really like the original, but the formant shifts add a completely different flavor nonetheless. How do I go about sharing these with the rest of the forum? I don't have a site of my own to post them to.
