Re: Conclusions
I think it's a major improvement, I don't miss the old waveforms at all and it wouldn't bother me if there was no way to recover them.
Re: Conclusions
V2 is great. For some, only the new JP8K oscillators would be enough to decide to upgrade. But anyway, the new waveform set is really, really great - so many essentials. I just don't know why so many people keep the 1.5x waves. Even though I understand they have many patches created with them, I think resampling the waves and upgrading to full 2.0 is a great improvement.

i agree.. the v-synth is much more powerfull the patches are more thought out.. and usefull...
honestly i was dissapointed in the 1.5 patches.. they were a little too mangled to suit my ideas. I bought it as a performance synth knowing these flaws and expecting to write my own samples..
but realisticly the 1.5 patches had virtually no usefull features programmed.. the time trip pad was useless on many of the patches so you basically had to make your own patch anyways... luckily i waited for 2.0 to make any patches based on the wave set...
I cant say how glad i was to see the 303 patches included
ahh to tame this amazing beast of a synth!!!

Re: Conclusions
For some reason I'm getting problems with the encoding in V2... every time I put in a waveform and encode and save, they dont sound right at all- I'm talking about the pitch across the keys. Only parts of the wave form will change octaves- like the variphrase isnt doing it's job. It's really pissing me off. I'm going to try and reinstall and hopefully its good, but if not, its back to 1.51 for me. anybody else experiencing this? Other than that, I like the new saw wave and and new features. Don't really care for preset waves, as they are all going to be replaced along with the presets so long as this encoding problem gets worked out.
Well I'll be your huckleberry....

Re: Conclusions
Hello,
The 2.0 upgrade adds some excellent features that bump the
design capabilities of the V-Synth significantly.
Especially nice is the step modulator. For those familiar with
Yamaha's AN series engine, its very similar in function to the 4-track free envelope generator on the AN1x and PLG-AN card.
I installed the hybrid upgrade and while I have the new features, my patches from the previous OS are still useable
as they are a combination of my own waves and the rom ones. Cool solution for now.
If Roland issues a patch at some point to make V-Synth 2
backward compatable, I will upgrade the soundset to 2.0.
Regards,
LWG

Hi, V2 is Awesome, The V-Synth is Awesome. I couldn't be happier, well okay mabe free beer

Re: Conclusions
Now I will upgrade.
I hope the next big upgrade Roland will let us keep the old patches with no fuzz.
That▓s how it should be.
Thank you people.

Re: Conclusions
imo it is a must have, especially for live.. since it is free there is no question about installing , isn't it?
the sequencer adds a lot to it.. so even if it is only for the seq stuff it will be worth the download..

Re: Conclusions
to Anti-Pulse:
skipping octaves sounds like you tried to use soloencoding on a wave that isnt suitable for that mode.
At least thats where i get these kind of artifacts.
Havent experienced any differences between 1.51 and 2.0 in regards to the encoding quality in general.
best
Mr.XR
the difference between theory and practise is that in theory there is no difference

Re: Conclusions
I do wish just as a point of convenience that the US Roland site would simply make the original V1.51 OS update available directly from the site. You can download it from Japan if you want, but it leaves you feeling like if you don't back up 1.51 locally, some day you may never see it again.
Re: Conclusions
Realtrance, you could always try www.V-Synth.com This Roland produced web site has the 1.51 update availible for download.

Re: Conclusions
Hi guys
I just did a gig last week which I needed to go back to my sounds from 1.51 I used the hybrid system to do this which worked very well in itself but I have to say that I absolutely hated my sounds on the older system. The sounds I been using from the 2.0 set are way better and sound much much nicer than the original set.
As a result I'm not going back to 1.51 again!!!
cheers

Re: Conclusions
I also put 1.51 back on after trying 2.0 but it just didn't sound as good, so I am back on 2.0 for sure it is the way to go. Just have to weed out the patches to make some space now.
Re: Conclusions
Who knows what has been done to the code, but significance is how the character of the V-synth can be changed with "just" a tweak to the software. The question remains as to when will Roland stop bothering to release further upgrades
