So, the update will reset the factory settings, right? Does that mean that the same patches (such as Mad Orchestra, etc.) are on there, plus a bunch of new ones?

I have my internal project saved to my Mac. What do you recommend is the best way to load it to the V-Synth once you have done the update? Select all patches and import them? Will the system prompt for overwrites?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks!

groovecake:

After the update is done, copy your project to the V-Synth via USB and name it MyProject.prj not Internal.prj. This will let you use both your 1.5x project and check out the new 2.0 patches. Also, I can't find any of the 1.x patches in the new ones, it seems that the whole damn huge soundset (512 patches and kits!) is new!

Artemio,

Thanks for the reply!

So will I have to import the files from the "My Project" file into the "Internal" project in the V-synth, or can I load between the two. I haven't quite figured out how the internal file system in the V-synth works.

Thanks again!

V-Synth can have multiple projects inside, you can load whichever you want to use currently from MODE -> DISK -> Load Project.

I have trouble loading my 1.5 projects into the new 2.0 OS. Analog patches load fine, patches which use my own waveforms as well, but patches relying on the 1.5 waveform set are completely messed up... :-o Fortunately, most of my patches use custom samples :-)

I guess this was the price to pay to get these 512 new patches in (changing the internal waveforms set)...

v2.0 not downward compatible?

Post by robnet »

That sounds really bad! :(

I expect V2.0 to play the v1.x sounds without any problems. If they really changed the ROM sample order, or even removed sounds from the ROM set, we're in deep trouble. I love some of those sounds!

Roland has got to sort this out! I'm seeing two types of problems with version 1.0-1.5 patches: on the one hand, patches such as Mad Orchestra load but don't sound right because they're missing the proper wave file; on the other hand, patches such as DblSweeper won't load at all (I receive an "Unknown Disk Error" message). With respect to the latter, it doesn't seem to make any difference whether the patches are imported from a PC Card or via USB.

I don't recall any indication from Roland that pre-2.0 patches would be unusable!

Can't you just use the librarian and redirect the ROM sounds from 1.51?

I would try this myself, but everytime I load 2.0, I can't load any waves at all. Not the factory 2.0 or 1.51 sets. i get a "Disk Error"

Does anyone know if Roland will address the problem of non-reverse compatibility? I saw no such statement about OS 1.51 waveforms rendering a "Disk Error" message.

Perhaps a future OS upgrade or addendum to OS2 (2.1)?

Is it destructive to reload OS 1.51 to retrieve the old sounds I programmed?

Can I go back and forth in this manner until Roland deals with the problem?

Import?

Post by trrstrl »

I won't get the opportunity to try this but...
Isn't it still possible to import patches with the associated wave file? If this is so then a patch with the original preset wave could be imported. Of course if only the patch was saved and not the wave then it won't work.

You would have to free up some patch space also before trying it since all slots are filled with the update. It seems that this should work though. I seem to remember patches importing preset waves with the patch, sometimes even when the wave was already present in another patch.

If I don't see someone else's results from trying this I will try tomorrow and post how it went.

I remember that Roland has protected the ROM wave sounds, you can't extract them from the machine. All you get is a *reference* to the sound (some sort of ID), but not the wave sound itself.

My only hope is that they will release a v1.x patch set, with wave files included, that can be loaded as a standalone project. If not... I'm tempted to go back to v1.51. Some of my trademark sounds are in there!

Is it possible to go back abd forth between OS 1.51 and OS2?

Is this the only workaround to retrieving all your old patches?
