XT VA Patch Collection on GT??

Post by daX6fantom »

I used 'convert project' to load the VA patch collection for the XT into my V-Synth GT. Unfortunately many of the patches seem to just be empty. They have patch names, just the tones seem to be empty.

An example is Patch 133:Virus GT. The upper tone is turned on, using tone number 77, which is empty (all oscs, cosms, everything else turned off). So no sound at all.

Anyone know how to get this project to convert properly, or better yet, able to upload a GT-compatible version?

Thanks everyone!

Just do a factory reset on the GT and select "Analog Collection"

This is a collection of every VA patch ever made from V-Synth Version 1 to V-Synth XT and all of my personal VA patches that I programmed over my years at Roland.

@daX6fantom,
As far as I know, there is no simple way to convert patches from the XT (or v2.0) to the GT, simply because the Project structures are completely different.

**V 2.0 and XT Project Directory Structure:**
Contains 2 Folders:
- PATCH\ Containing the patch Data in files with type xxxx.p00
- WAVE\ Containing the Patch wave data and the Samples used when PCM is used in the OSC Sound source in files with type xxxx.w00 (wave data) and xxxx.wav (samples).

Apart from that, in the PROJECT root, there are system files xxxx.s00 that are specific for the V2.0/XT:
V-Synth Palette.s00
V-Synth System.s00
V-Synth Template.s00
(we can scrap those anyway...)

**V-Synth GT Project Directory structure**
Contains 3 Folders:
- PATCH\ Containing the patch Name and if is assigned to Upper or Lower (Tone switch) in files with type xxxx.d00
- TONE\ Containing the patch Data in files with type xxxx.p00 (similar to PATCH on the V2.0/XT)
- WAVE\ Containing the Patch wave data and the Samples used when PCM is used in the OSC Sound source in files with type xxxx.w00 (wave data) and xxxx.wav (samples).

Apart from that, in the PROJECT root, there are system files xxxx.s00 that are specific for the GT:
V-Synth GT MicSetting.s00
V-Synth GT Palette.s00
V-Synth GT Setup.s00
V-Synth GT System.s00
V-Synth GT Template.s00
+
PatchMemo.txt
ToneMemo.txt
WaveMemo.txt
(we can scrap those anyway too...)

So, in order to have a proper conversion, you need to simulate the PATCH\ folder and files containing each TONE Name and if is assigned to Upper or Lower or Both (Tone switch) in files with type xxxx.d00.

If you do that, it will be easy to convert.

I have some hope to be able to do that in a near future, but unfortunately, without a GT, I can't test anything...

CORRECTION:
I made a mistake when said that there was no way to convert V_Synth (2.0, or XT) to the GT ( I don't own a GT, but didn't check on GT's manual...).

There is a way...GT has a function in the MENU that allows for converting Patches from the original V-Synths to the new GT format.
