23,

you said : "What's the XT have to do with a GT update?
That said, I don't think this is the appropriate place/thread for discussing XT issues"

I don't think we were discussing XT matters here, just comparing behaviors of the 2 similar machines...

It's countless the number of times that we refer to other boards when talking about a specific one... But anyway, ok, I'll place an answer to Dimitry's post in another thread...
Don't bother

Sorry about that Paul...
feel like I came off somewhat prickish.

Just on Dan's end (and anyone else from Roland that may be reading), thought it would be a good idea to keep things uncluttered.

23 - do you have any progress on a fix for this bug. It's exactly the same issue I've had for months!! - ideas?

Regarding V-Synth Clocking over USB.

The V-Synth XT has certain Midi Clocking over USB too. after a lot of testing and experiences related to other USB issues. (not just V-Synth) I decided that for dead certain performance, I no longer use Midi over USB or Audio over USB. USB just is not not advisable for running a lot of different devices on.

one example is that sending a Midi Note over USB with the V-Synth set to recieve clock over Midi would result in a patch not starting it's sequence arpeggio. The V-Synth only worked Fully over Midi and using the Audio Ins. NOT USB. There are other issues with USB like aggregate devices not syncing properly. I decided USB is best (mostly avoided) It is ok if you have a Multi channel Midi device connected to USB and maybe one Audio Device at a stretch, otherwise I would mark it as unreliable for professional application.

since using equipment in this way, everything functions perfectly.

The same problems seem to go for GT too as far as Midi goes.

Best

TheMvuser,
Completely agree, USB is not suitable for professional grade MIDI (or even Audio in some cases)...

Regarding the GT MIDI synch problems, do you mean, over MIDI cables as well?

My XT does not have that problem !! Maybe is only a GT issue...

Hi.

Midi cable is Fine..

I don't use a GT, but The technology is the same base technology as the XT etc.
so if they solved it on one related to Midi over USB I would expect them to solve it for both. given they haven't solved it for the XT in a long time, it doesn't surprise me it is USB issue. USB is always calling bidirectionally and needs a hand shake. I am not surprised USB is flaky.

Fire-wire doesn't do that so is more reliable.

Midi is a very mature protocol nowadays. just like Analogue Audio is.
consequently It sounds better and functions better. so I try to stick with it and not USB. or even fire-wire if I can at all avoid it..

so that is my recommendation. less headaches and better sound. :-)

Not to say you shouldn't make a noise about it though..

actually PauloF.

all we have to do now is find out if the old Motu Timepiece AVs worked in stand alone.
I get the impression they do, and the old serial ones people don't even want anymore.
if you see my thinking.

I think I do ;-)

I have all my Audio and MIDI issues solved since I took the (VERY GOOD) decision to buy a MACKIE 1642-VLZ3 Mixer and a Roland UM-550 midi patcher.
I just regret that I couldn't find a UM-880 (8 port)...now that I plan to add two more devices to the gear..

Hi

yep 880s are hard if not impossible to get.
old midi patchers probably have slow chips, so the next best thing I was thinking should be high spec device which people take as defunct. only the UMs have the buttons, but some devices have memories but need programming via computer, like Emagic AMT8s etc )only have 5 memories too. but I think the Timepiece AVs can be setup via the interface. so I was thinking the old serials may act like a dumb but fast midi box.

I will try to find and read the manual at some point to check.
