Back from NAMM!

Post by Jim Stout »

Ok Tribe!

I'm back from NAMM... So, keeping with my promise, I will answer any questions you have about the V-Synth GT.

Please keep in mind that specs could change so I'll do my best to keep you informed about any changes.

Welcome back Jim!

Here's a quick one:

Does the new GT emulate the D-50?..

Thanks,

Kokocalamar.

Hello Jim and thanks a lot for offering this to us!

Here I go ;-)

- How much polyphony does each "core" offer compared to the original V-Synths?
- Does both "cores" offer separate MFX/chorus/reverb units (e.g. 6 in total) or they share the same three units?
- Will it read original V-Synth 2.0 projects that make use of custom waveforms (assuming yes and no to ROM waveforms as it will have some new ROM)?
- Will it boot a V-Card off the USB drive? E.g. is it likely that Roland will re-release VC-1 for it?

That's all that doesn't let me sleep well so far ;-)

Artemio.

Here we go:

-Polyphony is 30 notes, this could change for the bettter.
-Each "core" has it's own MFX but they do share chorus and Reverb.
-It will read XT and V-Synth 2.0 patches.
-No D-50 card yet...

We had a meeting with the Japanese engineers yesterday and I expressed that the D-50 was important to the V-Synth users, they agreed and said "maybe." They also said they could do it off the USB host. I think they weren't sure if they would sell enough to make it worth it.

Hi Jim.

Do you mean that polyphony is 30 voices total or that each core has 30 voice polyphony?

EDIT: Also, does each core have 3 mfx?

Regards and thanks for answering our questions.

Adam

hi Jim,

videos & demo sounds will be published soon or we have to wait the 'official release date' of a couple of months?

also a price range? (there are sites out there with an indication of price)

I hope you will do the demo, I had a lot of fun with the 'old' v-synth demo :)

thanks!

FantAdam,

It's 30 notes total.
There is one MFX for each core.

kpanic,

Thanks for the props!

The V-Synth will be out in late March or early April and it will retail for 3295.00

I will do some of the demos and Scott Tibbs will be doing some too.

I just found out that the new V-Synth doesn't have a card slot and is therefore incompatible with the two previously released v-cards. I'm really disappointed to hear this. I love those cards. I am really pleased with the VC1-card because it meant I could retire my trusty old D-50 (which is showing some signs of age) with a 99.9% identical sounding copy in the V-synth. When I heard about the new functions in the new V-synth I was excited about upgrading, but that would now mean selling not only my V-synth but also these two cards that I really like. :-(

Hi Jim

Glad you made it out of the jungle! Some additional info. if you've got it;

1). What's the sampling memory? - hopefully up from 64MB.
2). Does the OS run independently from the sample RAM? - i.e the OS doesn't take sample RAM away - but this is only a problem if RAM is restrictive.
3). As much info. as you've got on the new AP synthesis! This is after all the main difference between the GT and say the XT - I certainly want to get my head round it and see what it's all about.

Cheers, Steve

Hi Jim, all.

ymmv: Welcome to the Roland Clan.

Yes, the lack of V-Card support might be an issue. Luckily Jim has brought that issue up with the engineers in Japan already.

Jim: Thanks. This lack of VC-1 is an important issue with us V-Synth / VC-1 users. After all, I can't see me buying a V-Synth XT just for the D-50 emulation, though I might buy a VC-1 card with USB-to-PC Card adapter (or a USB-to-PC Card adapter to go with my existing VC-1 card). Or perhaps the GT could have the VC-1 built-in in an OS update (similar to how the XT is). Also, I second stevie's and Quinnx's questions.

Hi Jim,

Here are some questions!

1. Is the Vocal Designer part immediately available as soon as you choose the structure or does it have to load in?

2. Knowing hom much sampling memory is available would be very nice!

3. UK price?

4. Has the sample editor changed?

5. Are there improvements to the Variphrase facility?

6. Is the clicking problem in loops solved? (there was a workaround of moving a few cycles but I'd prefer it was properly fixed)

7. What exactly is AP? So far I've heard some kind of altering of the attack portion.. but what exactly is it? Its not a collection of phrases a'la Motif is it?

Finally.... final!

Cheers

Hi Jim,
Quick question. How deep will the GTs MIDI Master Control capabilities be?
Love for it to be able to have a controller mode so I can fully drive my rack with it, as well as being able to store setups.
