No, they are not. Private messages are facilitated by exchanging email-adresses. Those adresses are btw encoded in the web page html to minimize spam problems.

Also, I never really understood why people use private messaging if you have e-mail. In addition I do not feel receiving a message from a person who doesn't want you to know his name is worth replying.

Is there any etiquette on the forums about how and if to post e-mail addresses? I don;t want to attract spambots to the site...

All e-mails will be converted into anti-spam format. The @ sign will be replaced by a graphic image: e.g. email@google.com.
