Hi,
I'm considering Juno-G as some kind of multipurpose unit. I'm interested in its sequencer and would like to use it to control external synths (via midi out) as well as internal timbres. Is that possible?
(I was reading manual but I'm not sure...)
I'd like to use an external midi controller among Juno-G own keyboard too.
Overall what do you thing about Juno-G seqencing capabilities?
Thanks!
Juno-G sequencer - some questions
Re: Juno-G sequencer - some questions
hi,
yes u most probably can do that though i havent done such kind of work personally.
and overall as a sequencer juno-g is great with great basic abilities.but perhaps it is also one of the areas where roland has made the cut down.it does not have pattern based recording.so it is a linear sequencer.some other features are absent.but those are very minors and rarely useable one.overall ITS GREAT

Re: Juno-G sequencer - some questions
I haven't yet found whether it's possible to switch the sequencer tracks from internal to MIDI only, so I am not sure if you'll have a full-blown 16 internal + 16 external MIDI parts setup.
Re: Juno-G sequencer - some questions
So Juno-G sequencer can output via midi port?
I'd like to sequence using MoESRack and to be able record arps from it too. Perhaps even some SysEx.
So far after looking into Juno-G manual I'm not sure if it's possible. I couldn't find such setting for a part.
It'd be a pity if it'd not be possible because Juno-G sequencer looks like being very friendly and quick.

Re: Juno-G sequencer - some questions
After a second session of reading Juno-G manuals I found a paragraph what is saying its sequencer can control external devices.
Muting internal synth I suppose could be done by using a silent patch?
There is only one thing what I have to be sure of. Can Juno-G sequencer record from midi in port?
(back to manual reading)

Re: Juno-G sequencer - some questions
Yes, silencing the part would work (better, turning off all tones of the patch so that it doesn't eat up any polyphony voices).
Re: Juno-G sequencer - some questions
An excellent idea! I just found about that in the manual. I could make something like a template perfomance with few tracks muted that way.Yes, silencing the part would work (better, turning off all tones of the patch so that it doesn't eat up any polyphony voices).
So there is just one dillemma about midi in recording. It'd be great if I could use my A33 to control Juno-G and to record arps from MotifESrack into Juno-G sequencer.
(as well sysex dumps from esr)
edit:
In the Juno-G's manual page 183 (the FAQ section) there is a question about some issue when recording from an external source. So I will assume that Juno-G's seqencer can record from midi in as otherwise it'd not be making any sense.
It can be done
Hi over there!
I recently bought a Juno-G for using it in my rehersals. I got it because I wanted it to complement my Yamaha S90 ES (same sound engine than Motif ES). Now I have a sequencer, audio recorder and simple sampler... a perfect companion for the S90ES
(and the Juno-G works great with the weighted action and aftertouch... a BIG difference).
I've worked with both keyboards composing some little songs and it worked great! I was able to synchronize the S90ES arpegiator and delay effects to Juno's G sequencer.
First of all, you should configure the Juno-G as master clock, so it sends it to the Motif. You should configure the Motif clock to MIDI (not internal) and connect it to the Juno with a Midi cable.
I recommend you to prepare templates for both synths. In the Juno G prepare an empty song with all tracks unassigned. You can also insert the needed sysex at the beginning of the song for the Motif (switch to multi mode, for example).
In the Motif you should setup a multi with the desired sounds, and set the midi channels according to the track layout of your song. I found easier to use an empty template with all the parts off and fill it with the desired sounds as you need.
I also find useful to dump the S90ES multi into the song (when no more changes are needed). This way I don't depend on the multi memories and having to select the correct one for the song.
Hope this helps you.
Best regards,
Urtzi.

Re: Juno-G sequencer - some questions
Hi,
It starts to look better and better then!
I will use J-G's keyboard mostly when not in my house. It should be kind of ok I suppose. I'm using A33 which I like very much.
The sysex dumps into J-G's sequencer looks like an excellent idea indeed.
