Low Quality Sounds in Juno-G?

Post by KerbyFX »

Everyone keeps saying that the sounds in the Juno-G are lower quality than the Fantom X Series because the amount of RAM space is only 64 Megs compared to Fantom's 128.

Is this true? Are the sounds really lower in quality?

And deoes anyone have a Juno-G sample song that they composed so I can hear the quality?

Sorry for my weird questions, but I'd like to know before I buy my Juno-G.

Thanks!

not at all. Piano and rhodes are definitelly much worse quality then fantom, (one of the reasons I switched to fantom). But other sounds I don't think are worse. Many are almost the same plus few new.

Are the guitar patches the same quality as the fantom's?

And if I bought the Complete Piano SRX Board, would it have the same quality in the Juno-G than it would in the Fantom?

Thanks for your replies. I really need some input.

well, with piano sound is that problem its very subjective.
I've tried SRX-11 with my juno-g and didn't get piano quality I liked in Fantom. First it's completely different "recording", second - without tweaking it sounded magphone like, another words bad. For better rhodes you'd need another srx card. No place in juno for that.

But, all that said piano in juno-g is not that bad anyway as is.
Go to music store and listen to it, maybe you'll like it. But if you care about piano sound, probably you would not like juno-g keys like me. Keys action and piano sound were the main reson I exchanged juno for fantom.

guitar patches are I guess same good, I'm not expert here don't use them much.

All depends what you need, for that price juno-g is good deal for sure.

Whom do you mean by "everyone"? This is the first time I hear this.

Anyway, yes, the Juno features a two times smaller ROM, and includes only bank A of the X series. But in terms of sound quality it is the same. It does miss some sounds like new huge piano and some others - but you can add an SRX-11 board for lush piano or SRX studio for guitars and drums, not to mention there is a sampler so you can import other sounds from WAVE or AIFF files.

Also, the G features the same sound chip as the X synths - fat and crisp sound guaranteed. All the synthesis possibilities and effects are the same.

The Fantom X and Juno-G share the same sound engine ... and many of the patches are the same ...

but some aren't (the grand piano) and some areas are less well-represented (the strings and orchestral groupings in particular seem like a pittance on the G compared to the X) ...

I think the Juno-G is a commendable board and better than many of its competitors (Korg TR, Yamaha's MO series), but I'd suggest you really take a moment and ask yourself how long you intend on working with this machine.

Because the long you keep it and use it, the less important the money you saved on the G will become. Not to mention -- as you learn more about your board -- I think you'll regret the numerous features and positive attributes you gave up for that lower price.

Unless a lightweight board is your primary concern, I see nothing about the Juno-G to recommend it over a Fantom X (not even the lower price.)

When it comes to a synth workstation, it's better to grow into it (Fantom X) than find yourself growing out of it (Juno-G).

Plus, the Juno-G is not a professional-grade instrument and will not hold it value as well in the long-term (except for the fact, it's priced fairly low to begin with).

If you decide to go Fantom X, just make sure you shop around, call online retailers and get the best deal. Or buy used. The Fantom X is a fairly robust, well-made unit. I wouldn't be afraid of buying one used.

That said, I bought my Fantom X7 new for $1,950 almost a year and a half ago and have ZERO regrets and really feel like its proven and paid for itself in that time.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't really respond to your question. Technically speaing the Juno-G and Fantom X share the identical sound. The only difference is some of the samples are different and there are fewer on the G. If all you're really after is a lightweight, lower-cost synth in the same ballpark as a Fantom X, the Juno-G is not a bad choice at all.

Thanks to everyone for your responses! ANd sorry, Artemio.....I didn't mean "everyone." Some of the posts on this board as well as word around town is what I mean by that.

Does anyone have any sample music or songs from their Juno-G?
