good B3, Moog out of juno-g?

Post by krakow »

Hi,
can I get good B3, Moog leads and Mellotron sounds out of it
juno-g? Just got such requirements in the band, and not sure
what exactly it means.
thanks

I don't know about B3, but you can sure get some moog sounds as the Juno-G has all the basic analog waveforms (saw, tri, square) and the synth parameters needed for a lead like that. Maybe you might want to adjust the portamento and turn the pitch/mod lever to get good leads.
You could also add 2-4 waves per tone and slightly detune them from each other to get some 'fatness' in your lead.

What you won't probably get though is PWM - pulse width modulation that is found on VAs and real analogs which you can use to modulate the oscillator waveform to add some classic 'analog' unstability and also self-oscillating filters on the moog might be hard to achieve since digital filters are more 'precise'.

Read our man Artemio's synth tutorial book from the downloads.
Good luck!!

The Fantom/Juno-G TweakBook teaches you just that. You can get either a free or commercial version: http://sineshine.com/creations/publications/. It now is compatible with Juno-G (more info here: http://forums.rolandclan.info/?action=s ... d=1&page=1).

You can certainly get usable B3 and Moog patches out of the Juno G. But forget about the mellotrons unless you get the SRX07 Ultimate Keys expansion.

How does the MELLOTRON sound?
Is it kind of FUNKY or TECHNO?

Definitely get the SRX-7, the sounds are superb.

PWM sounds exist on the G, although I think it's probably a samples PWM waveform rather than 'real' PWM because I don't recall seeing that parameter.

Moog sounds are great and easily made.

Organs are good but not as good as the VK virtual organs (obviously).

There are no tron waves on the Juno G. They do have a couple of patches that simulate tron strings, but they are laughable. The trons on the SRX07 are not bad, but you need to tweak them to make the string sounds more aggressive. The tron string patches that are on the board are more along the lines of the sound of the Moody Blues strings, not of the King Crimson variety. The choirs and flutes are more usable out of the box.

The best way to get mellotron sounds out of your X is to sample them in and use the samples as your tones in your patch. Double them and slightly detune.

If you search for tron samples, you will find several on the web, some for free. I did this for "Strawberry Fields" flutes and it sounded great.

I get up, I get down...
