JUNO-G VS Korg TR. im stuck!!!!!!
JUNO-G VS Korg TR. im stuck!!!!!!
the pricing of these two items in the UK are exactly the same
both at £799 (though i'm being sold either one at £675 ) but i cant make up my mind. i have played alot on the TR, and the sounds are impressive. korg has introduced some new sounds, and i must say that it defo has SOME better sounds than the juno, its drums beat roland even the X series hands down, the range of strings sound better, but stuff like guitars and bowed instuments lack compared to roland which trash the TR.
on the other hand i have been shown a demo of the juno at a music expo, and what struck me was the 4 track audio recording facility which if you buy a standard 512 pc memory DIMM gives u lots of ram, and the added option of multisampling. take doing a remix to an acapella for EG..that would be amazing rather than cutting chopping and tweaking in cubase or logic. plus it also has a sampler, (the TR has an upgrade option!!)...
however i was not allowed to have a go on the Juno g as the man said it was a prototype. they ship in a few weeks, im at a dead end in deciding what to get.
NOTE that i already have the roland fantom -S (yea thanks roland, you came out with the X series 5 months after i got my S. how naughty) so im wondering if i should explore the hoo haa about a korg and get this to compliment my roland.
i produce rnb, work with a nu metal band and hip hop. any advice on my purchase? sadly i cant afford both right now.

If I were you, I would consider two options:
1. If you really need the things Juno-G offers compared to Fantom-S, sell Fantom-S and buy Juno-G and TR. You get 4 audio tracks, 128 voices, PC card storage, up to 512 MB DIMM expansion, all the FX and synthesis like in Fantom-S, USB MIDI (but no multisampling, no aftertouch, slightly smaller screen, and 1x SRX slot).
2. Just buy the TR because having Fantom-S and Juno-G together makes no sense as to me, they are 90% same.

Re: JUNO-G VS Korg TR. im stuck!!!!!!
def. get the TR, though I think a Juno-G is the better board.
However, you have an S. If you want the audio track recording ... why don't you sell the S and get the G? (Basically, the big dif between the two is the UI and pads).
Is the plan to have two keyboards ... if so ... why don't you get something more interesting like a virtual analog synth? Although I'd go for a different sound than Roland if you're expanding your board lineup, Roland does have its new SH-201 coming out ... which would be a better complement to your S than a TR. And it would be less expensve ... Or consider an Alesis Ion or even Micron ... But you should be getting into something with LOTS OF KNOBS and SLIDERS.
I guess the question is ... what kind of sound are you looking for that your S can't handle?
What about SRX expansion boards for your S?

Hi guys! I have a question for you all.
I have the P-80 Yamaha (digital piano) and the Micron Alesis (VA).
Selling my JV2080 and my A-37, I want to buy a ney synth for a modern rock. What do you advice me to buy between the Juno-G and the TR???
I need mostly pads, real strings, synth sounds and so on.
Ciao!!
Nick

Go play both and decide for yourself ... but I think the Juno-G is a smarter choice than the TR ...
but really you need to go and play them both ... one may just speak to you over the other ...
But the TR is a much more compromised version of the Triton than the Juno-G is to the Fantom ...
Plus, the TR is junky ... though, I haven't see one yet, even the Juno-D is better looking/constructed than a TR ...
BTW, if you do go for a TR ... you might as well just get an Le ... except for a few sounds and a black paint job, there's almost no difference between them except $$$.

But the Triton LE is not so good as I have tought... And if the TR is the same thing (except few patches) of the LE, I will choose the Juno-G...
By the way, in Italy we haven't got the Juno-G and the TR yet... so I have to wait the end of April or the beginning of May...
Wait wait wait...

Do not sleep
Hey,
Do NOT sleep on the Triton Le..i have a Fantom-S as well but i also recently obtained a Triton Le..and bought some patches for it from Pro-Rec.....OH MY LORD is all i can say..most people never move past presets for most synths...but when you get deep into the keyboard you will be blown away with the sounds....4 REAL!!!!

Re: JUNO-G VS Korg TR. im stuck!!!!!!
What about the Korg X50. It's the same as the TR, only cheaper, lighter, and w/ no sequencing.
I think you're mixing up applications. As far as sound goes, you prefer the TR. As far as workstation features goes, you see the advantages of the Roland with its 4 tracks of audio recording, increased polyphony, etc...
That's the decision. But like others have said, since you own a Fantom S, you already own practically the entire Juno G sound set anyway, and probably couldn't sell it for any reasonable amount of money. Best to keep it and get the TR or X50.

One thing : The TR's action sucks BIG TIMe. seriously. Stay away from it.

Fantom S sounds are not the same as the Juno G sound sets , in fact the Juno G has some completely new waveforms and new patchs that the Fantom S does not. Also the Juno G uses the new WX Chip which the Fantom X again does not.
Just FYI

Yeah, but a Juno-G is going to be light years closer to the sounset of the Fantom S than a TR with a completely different soundset and engine.
He has at least two choices: (1) sell s, get Juno-G (2) sell S, get TR or what I would do in his shoes (3) keep S, get TR
Although, someone mentioned the X-50, which is probably the smarter choice ... the S probably has better sequencing abilities and he probably doesn't need another sampler.
Yeah, if the TR sounds are what you're after, check the X-50 out ... It's about $200-300 cheaper than a TR ...

Look at the Alesis Fusion 6HD as well. With the new o.s. and price drops, it's the best deal out there. The sounds aren't as good as Korg and Roland's, but there's more and more 3rd party presets.

"Fantom S sounds are not the same as the Juno G sound sets , in fact the Juno G has some completely new waveforms and new patchs that the Fantom S does not. Also the Juno G uses the new WX Chip which the Fantom X again does not."
According to all of the literature and press, "Sharing the same high-powered processor as Roland’s famous Fantom-X series", for example, the Juno G would appear to have exactly the same chip as the Fantom X. Where are you getting this information?
The new waveforms, I believe, are exclusively devoted to giving the Juno-G an improved acoustic piano, similar to the improved one when going from the Fantom-S to Fantom-X series. But I think aside from that its the exact same set of waves as was in the original Fantom-S, the Fantom Xa, and the "A" bank of the Fantom X series. Possibly less, since if the Juno G has 64 megs of wave ROM, then something would have had to be eliminated in order to make way for the "new" acoustic piano samples.
