Re: Romantic Strings... Achievable?

<t>Don't know if you're still around, but if you want lush strings, you can try a few things.<br/> <br/> Add 6db low pass filter to your string elements, and close down cutoff until you're happy with the sound. This reduces the high frequency partials which will smooth the strings.<br/> <br/> You mi...

Re: instrumnet definition file

Go to Rolandus.com (if in US, of course)

You need to get a free user account at Roland.com, and then login and go to the Support area. You'll find a webapp in there that will build you an INS file, based on which SRX cards you may have installed. It's a nice feature.

Max Size Compact Flash Card for FanXR?

<t>I need a PC card for my FanXR, and I know the PCMCIA-style cards are almost impossible to find, and expensive if you do.<br/> <br/> With my Rev. 2.0 update came an adapter card, compact flash to PC card (the update comes on compact flash), which is convenient.<br/> <br/> My question for those who...

Re: Programming in multiple patches/perfs (lots)

<t>Yes, normally the user memories are dups of presets. This is how they are on fantom and xv racks, but don't know the sonic cell. Read your manual.<br/> <br/> Some folks manage libraries of user banks, and put them in sequential order depending on the gig. (Some keyboards support this kind of feat...

Re: What you think about a Fantom g6 rack ????

<t>Man, unless they've redone the editors for the Fantom G rack, you might be dissapointed (if you do any sound design).<br/> <br/> I've owned the Fantom XR for a couple of years now, and the editor is difficult to use. Samples are tucked away in 3 or 4 levels of hierarchical menu. There's no button...

Re: Which Fantom do you own?

<t>I own a Fantom XR, which shares the rack with a Roland XV3080 and Kurz K2000RS. In the Fantom are the Ultimate Keys SRX 7 and Complete Piano SRX 11 cards, and the XV has a couple of symphonic JV cards.<br/> <br/> I like the sound of these Roland synths, but I tend to use only presets due to the l...

Re: Grazie Artemio!!

<t>OK, thanks.<br/> <br/> I know the synth engine is the same for all models, and the manual has an adequate discussion of the effects and parameters...actually the manual is quite good in its treatment of Fx -- better than the competition.<br/> <br/> What I'm looking for is more of a technique book...

The Tweakbook

<t>Vlad_77, please pardon me for hijacking your thread.<br/> <br/> Artemio -- I own a Fantom XR(2), and it is under-utilized in this studio, as I feel that the editor provided by Roland is so awkward, and the panel user interface is sorely lacking the minimal functionality present in the XV (I also ...

Re: Crazy Horses anyone?

<t>Don't know how much of a beginner you are, but have you learned to use the patch finder for stepping through all patches of a particular type?<br/> <br/> If not, check it out and step through the Distorted Guitar sounds, sampling each until you hit on the sound you're looking for. If you find som...

Re: Midi track change

<t>Many commercial MIDI files have embedded bank/program sysx messages. These events by definition have to occur so many ms before the first note event, so generally, when your sequencer starts the first measure, they are over. It is at this point you can load your own presets or performance.<br/> <...

Re: Recommendation to emulate Spectrasonic's Atmosphere

Take a look at Ultimate Keys, #7, which has samples from earlier Roland synths, which Atmosphere also shares, if names like "JP-8 PWM Strings" are to be believed.

Re: MIDI HELP!!!!

<t>To hear what you're playing while tracking, you need to echo MIDI back to your synth from the sequencer.<br/> <br/> Make sure that :<br/> <br/> a) turn on MIDI echo in your sequencer<br/> b) the Output channel on your sequencer matches the Fantom's Receive channel. In patch mode, this is a system...

Have you seen the plugin Spaceman2?

It's a cute little thing that does just what you want. Try KVR.
