Re: FA=08 .vs. FA-06 or FA-07

Thanks @harmonizer, "palm smear" indeed, now i know the name for the move I need to add. :) Glad to hear the Roland is useful to you even with a Nord. Seems like all the rhodes tones are hard to beat, and yea, i use splits as well. And glad the forum came back! (I think it was down for a m...

Re: FA=08 .vs. FA-06 or FA-07

Thanks for the background links xp30. I would actually miss the d-link moving to the Fantom, but seem to be the minority there. And it looks like they dropped large sets of tones I would also miss -- unless they my favorite rhodes ones. Do the FA-07 and FA-06 have studio sets like the FA-08? That wa...

Re: FA=08 .vs. FA-06 or FA-07

Thanks xp30, yes, i had in mind the old models, but hadn't yet seen that they were discontinued. Good point about the redundancy -- i already take the card out from time to time to make a copy. And I am getting concerned I've beaten the FA-08 up over time. I was certainly originally aiming for a pia...

FA=08 .vs. FA-06 or FA-07

I've had the FA-08 for years now and I'm pretty happy with it. I got a lot happier with the available organ tones when i downloaded and installed a couple of expansion packs. Sometimes it's a drag trying to fit a full-sized keyboard in at a gig, though. I wonder if a smaller model would work as well...

Re: FA and wireless connection

Yea i'd like to know what that wireless is good for -- could it be used to transfer files off the keyboard for example? That would speed up my recording workflow.

Ska anyone?

I use a number of good organs already with 2 extension packs loaded. My goto blues/rock one is Perky Twin-B -- what i'd say is a plush but soft one. I'm looking for a good one for this sort of ska, the Specials doing Gangsters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgCZN1rU5co I'm not a gearhead -- but i ...

ardour

Anyone ever put their Roland in DAW mode with ardour? Is there much it can do? (i know it's not one of the supported DAWs).

It would be nice if even if I'm recording to the FA's multi-track system, there was a way to xfer the results over to the computer (without sneaker-netting the card).

Re: laptop shelf for keyboard stand

I have a stand extender to stack a 2nd keyboard on (my stand looks the same as yours, an X style one). On the extender stand, i have it mostly or all level, and put a small board there where my laptop can sit. That gave me a synthy setup in case i want to bring a smaller usb controller instead of my...

Re: stacking keyboards

Right, I absolutely understand the gimmick comment. I think it's fairly effective sometimes, but it *feels* gimmicky as well -- like after a while I'd like to revert to the volume pedal instead, because it just feels too dramatic waving my hand. And good point about the keyboard lengths, though I th...

stacking keyboards

Do some people like to stack keyboards? I think it would be helpful sometimes, but it feels more natural to put the "main* keyboard on the bottom for me, which would be the FA-08, and my lighter-weight usb-controller (m-audio) up top. But then the d-link would be useless. Anyone want to talk ab...

Re: turning Part 16 into regular part?

Thanks Joe, now I understand. If i ever needed it back for the sequence I guess i lose the last tone, but that's definitely liveable. I'll definitely take the extra tone per set!

turning Part 16 into regular part?

I know part 16 is the midi track or somesuch -- haven't quite played with it yet, though i've done MIDI with other stuff. But can you turn that part into a regular part so I can have one more on the set of pads (when in that pad mode).?
