Re: MIDI OUT - Soft Through Bug?
I don't have a newer Fantom, but have an MC909 which is based on the earlier Fantom-S/X series, and can confirm that this seems to be an annoying Roland thing, also present in their previous MCs. 'Sync Output' can only be ON in Master and Remote modes. If set to Slave, the Sync Output goes to OFF an...

Re: Restoring MC909 presets after OS v1.23 update
Maybe try the procedure update again? I once updated via USB and lost all of the preset patterns and patches (this has been known to happen). I can't quite remember what I did, but it was something along the lines of doing the update again, making sure I did it correctly, and then factory reset. A l...

Re: Using a Keyboard controller instead of MC-909 velocity pads?
Yes, you can of course use a midi keyboard. Midi out of keyboard to midi in on MC obviously. Check your midi transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) settings in the system menu on the MC; you'll probably want to have all the Rx options on. Note that the "Remote Keyboard Switch" setting is basically...

Re: MC-505 acting weird
That seems weird. If I'm understanding you correctly, the LED lights should cycle through each function with the button push, and not light up two functions simultaneously

Re: Importing XV/JV Patches to MC-909
MC909 is closest to Fantom-S, but both descend from the JV/XV. Roland actually released a patch compilation of JV/XV patches for the Fantom-X series, but unfortunately it seems you can only load it via their decades old proprietary software detailed in this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Re: Roland D2 RHY
I have an MC505 and others, but never had a D2. Check the midi implementation for the D2, this is where you would find if it's possible to set the drum part to the RHY setting. You might have to do it via sysex though. A lot of this era Roland stuff is all very similar, but with various features lef...

Re: MC-505 step sequencing with MIDI keyboard?
Yes you can use an external midi keyboard while step sequencing on the 505/909. You might need to turn on the "Remote Keyboard Switch" which is basically a midi omni mode

Re: Use MC-909 Sample Editor Win Prog only for 44.1 sample rate Samples
MC909 works with .wav & .aiff at 16bit/44.1kHz only. You can use any audio editor, like Audacity, to export any sample at 16bit/44.1kHz, and drop them straight into the ROLAND/SMPL directory. Otherwise you can drop any type of sample in the TMP/WAV_AIFF directory and the 'Import WAV/AIFF' utilit...

Re: MC-505 panning and output problems
It might just be that you've accidentally recorded those level/pan sweeps into the pattern, as all fader and knob movements on these grooveboxes can be recorded into the sequencer. This data is usually recorded as MIDI CC data or Sysex data, depending on what parameter you record. You can see this d...

Re: 909 Preset Patch VS Preset Rhythm?
No, you can use samples for Rhythm Patches just as you can for normal patches. Assign a part as a Rhythm Patch and press the Wave Select button. This will bring you to where you assign waveforms to each pad and just go to the user or card tab (assuming you've saved some samples there)
