Re: Can anyone see how Auto-Quantization got me??
Think of the Xi sequencer as a step sequencer. Thode are always stuck to a grid.

Re: Is it possible to record live without quantization?
^ what he said. I use Steinberg Cubasis Mobile on iPad for sequencing my entire midi setup. It's excellent, solid and full featured. Perhaps expensive for an app, but not compared to equally professional software on PC/Mac. And it has the added benefit that I can make music without having a compute...

Re: Is it possible to record live without quantization?
Nobody knows. It's not completely unlikely they'll add swing, but adding an unquantized sequencer mode is almost certainly not possible. That would mean implementing a completely different kind of sequencer, since the JD-Xi sequencer is essentially a step-sequencer with a live-recording option.

Building a JD-Xi editor for iPad
Roland doesn't seem to be doing it, and I don't want a computer in or near my studio, so I've set out to create a proper editor for the JD-Xi. It's going to be a native iPad app (fully CoreMidi compliant) so I'll put it on the Appstore once it's done. Still a lot of work ahead of me... but I thought...

Re: Degree to which Analog + Digital is combined
You won't regret it. Despite the looks this little box is a powerhouse for the price.

Re: Degree to which Analog + Digital is combined
Unlike the JD-XA, the analog and digital parts of the Xi are separated. You can not send the digital parts throught the analog filters or vice versa. All parts really mix well together and the digital parts are based on Roland's supernatural engine, which means there is some incredibly deep synth pr...

Re: Does it Dubstep?
For dubstep the smaller JD-Xi would already suffice. It even has a ton of dubstep presets ready to use and it has all the drums you need. Leaves you with some funds for other goodies (a TB3 and an MX1 perhaps). Although the JD-Xi is not a bad synth but it lacks depth and real bottom analog sound. 1...

Re: JD-Xa - 4 times the value of the JD-Xi?!
Given sufficient supervision during manufacturing there is no reason to prefer Japanese-made over Chinese-made these days. That's a rather 80s mindset.

Re: Soft-Thru not working?
Went through the issue with Roland CE. Soft-thru does work, but with a few caveats: - it only works with the midi in/out ports. If you use USB as a midi connection to your DAW you're out of luck - soft thru only passes note and controller data. Clock sync messages are not passed through. I can live ...

Re: Soft-Thru not working?
Indeed, but I've now narrowed it down. It seems Midi going in through USB is not being sent out. Using regular Midi cables it does work.
That makes integrating the JD-Xi into a DAW setup considerably more difficult...

Re: Soft-Thru not working?
Is there anyone who has soft-thru working? It would already help to know whether it is actually possible to get it to work!

Soft-Thru not working?
After tinkering for a while with my JD-Xi in standalone mode I'm now trying to hook it up into my MIDI chain. For some mysterious reason the "soft thru" mode in the MIDI settings doesn't seem to pass on any MIDI messages (no note messages, no clock messages, etc.). I'm on the latest softwa...
