I have one too and love it. You can put one of the JV expansion cards in it and the Vintage card was made for it. Actually the JD990 can access some waveforms that other units can't. Really rocks and is killer with this card.

Personally, I'm satisfied with my X8 now too. The G just doesn't add enough features to tempt me to consider an upgrade. Add on top of that the fact that my SRX boards that I have grown to love aren't compatible and you have the classic "one step forward, two steps back."
