If it is not the pitch bend then it could be one of the 4 realtime control knobs. Turn each one to see if that is the problem next time it is doing it.

My x8 suffers from this which I have owned since new. Others have just replaced them. Thet are only 1 or 2 dollars and you need to be able to solder.

Years ago I spent a lot of quarters on Space Invaders, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Pacman, Ms Pacman, Centipede and Galaga. Those are the games I played the most. Galaga became one of my favourites in the end but Space Invaders started off the craze.
