Re: MKS-80 (Jupiter-8) v/s Jupiter-80 : The Blind Test
The MKS-80 is analog, but digitally controlled from the MPG-80. On the MKS-80/MPG-80 combo, "zipper" noise will be heard when moving the Cutoff fader too, although the filters in the MKS-80 are analog. Best way to compare analog v/s digital in absence of zipper noise, is to program a VCF/T...

Re: MKS-80 (Jupiter-8) v/s Jupiter-80 : The Blind Test
Few differences could have been removed by spending more time to the tweaking. However, cloning a sound through the entire keyboard range takes a lot of time. And sometimes, it is simply impossible ;-) Anyway, as you said, despite of the small audible differences, it ain't easy to find where the rea...

Yes, the MKS-80 and Jupiter-80 were recorded simultaneously... so, the indicators are meaningless. Nice try anyway ;-)

MKS-80 (Jupiter-8) v/s Jupiter-80 : The Blind Test
The only video which compares the output of the MKS-80 (Super Jupiter - Analog) with the Jupiter-80 (Digital but SuperNATURAL Synth engine). Although the answers to the blind test are not published yet, the video is interesting :

Re: Jupiter 80 256 polyphony and 10 Tones meaning???
This a totaklly new approach to terminology. The prophet5 was advertised as having 5 voices of polyphony, not 10. The Prophet-5 also offered a unison-mode. This mode turned the synth into monophonic. Does it mean that the Prophet-5 was a 1-voice "polyphonic" synth? No, it's five. Why? Bec...

Re: Jupiter 80 256 polyphony and 10 Tones meaning???
Polyphony relates to oscillators, the smallest sound synthesis unit. The JP-80 can play 256 oscillators simultaneously. A tone often make use of multiple oscillators. For example, a SuperNatural Synth Tone stacks up to 3 analog-like oscillators. A so-called Registration stacks 2 livesests (Upper/Low...

Re: 256 voice polyphony?? not as far as i can tell!
The debate here is about polyphony - where you hold down one note you can have 10 'sounds' or 'voices' playing (I'm not including partials in this!). So you hold down 10 notes, you'll get 100 sounds being triggered. Roland says that you can have 256 sounds 'sounding' at the same time but some users...

Re: 256 voice polyphony?? not as far as i can tell!
Just to add a little fuss to the discussion... 128 ??? not 256? I'm confused... Can any of the JUP-80 owners or Roland experts explain how this relates to the announced 256 ? I think the Jupiter-80 works as follows : 256 voices available at REGISTRATION level, split into 128 voices for the UPPER LI...

Those buttons under the keys annoy me to... I fear I might press them unintentionally... This is a real issue, but only under two assumptions : (1) the Jupiter-80 got you excited (2) you p...s sizes favorably. I for sure fulfill the first assumption... I wished I could press those Jupiter-80 regist...

Re: Jupiter-80 videos
256 polyphony is a good spec fair enough, but 27 oscillators is simple (and unimpressive) math.. . In the JP-80 you have upper=4 tones * 3 partials = 12, lower = 4 tones * 3 partials = 12, solo = 1 tone * 3 partials = 3, hence a total of 27 indivdual discrete partials.. I love mathematics too... ;-...
