MV Nation dead and gone?

Post by Synthtron »

I was looking for resources on the MV-8000 and could not find MV nations site. I guess all of that info is dead and gone?

I am trying to find out how to export MIDI data feom the MV-8000 into Cubase. Like saving data feom MV-8000 into a standard Midi file or something that can be read by Cubase.

Any ideas?

It's sad because there was a lot of excellent info on there that everyone shared. Now it's all gone.

Can't help you on Cubase...

What a shame.
That was a useful resource though I was not able to get registered.
To bad the person running it did not have a back up/secondary moderator or offer to sell or give the site to someone else to pick up and maintain.

If anyone needs anything specific, I have hardcopies of most of the threads up to about a year ago. I didn't have a computer at home so while at school I would print out posts to read later

Honestly I'm pissed that the website went down. Granted, a lot of people knew that the MV-Nation was creeping along with random questions and info added every blue moon. But there were some veteran MV users on there that dropped some great KNOWLEDGE about the MV.
Not to pat myself on the back, but I was one that added my detailed info on there to help others who had questions about the MV and now the shit is gone. :-(

Sad bruh, sad....

Actually the site was hacked then the topics were spammed by some sort of spambots. Moderator was at the same time the owner of the website. Here is the message he posted upon the incident :
"MV-NATION

What happened to MV-NATION?
Don't know. Received an email from PayPal that the site was hacked

Why did you put up this notice?

I check up on mvnation.com periodically and recently I was surprised to see it pointing to a scam site. I didn't like the idea of having MV-NATION pointing to an advertising marketing scheme of a website so I put up this ghetto vanilla text message.

What's next for mvnation.com
The name will live on some way or another but the original content if found may have to live in a separate home.

How can we contact you?
nationmv@gmail.com"

Too bad it's gone. Me too I'm a bit disappinted...

ive had some succes using the https://web.archive.org/ waybackmachine. you paste mvnation.com in the urlbox and you see snapshots of then current state of mvnationswebpages. alot of links are deadends but when you come at the inevitable..

"Hrm.

Wayback Machine doesn't have that page archived.

Want to search for all archived pages under http://mvnation.com/ ?"

I clicked that and filtered for the text viewtopic and alot of those still seem available snapshotted in plaintext..maybe theres other ways to filter aswell

A greet and a simple wish

Postby Fasttracker on Mon Dec 22, 2008 9:56 am
Greetings to all mvnation members.
I bought myself an mv8000 a couple of weeks ago and i'm very pleased with it.
Seems like everything i want in one box witch is kind off why i bought it.
Better loading times , faster screen redraw in the piano roll , and a couple more simultanious mfx's would be cool , but that's not my wish.

I wish for a simple button , kinda like in kontakt3 where you can choose to make changes to all groups or just the selected.
This way you can change the settings on all the partials in a patch at once instead of one at a time which is time consuming.
And to make sure everyone understands me correctly , changing the decay on one partial would change the decay on all the partials , same with the lfo settings like the rate , the type , etc... changing that on one partial would change all partials if the button is enabled.
I think this is a strange option to be left out in a machine that does multisample patches.

So , just a button to choose to change all partials in a patch at once , or just the selected partial.

Also , on an emu sampler you just set the root note on a sample and then select the lowest note and highest note , then it would play normal on the root and pitch down and up on the other notes. I know it's possible with the quick assign option , but not with the split function . At least not that i know . The "Set chromatic" option seems to only use the root note and upwards , not down. and doing it manually plays all the notes at the root pitch. Am i missing something ?

Greetz..

Patches vs. Audio Phrase - know the difference

Postby NNITRED on Sun Feb 06, 2011 11:22 am
Patches and Audio Phrases approach sound from different angles. Which to use depends on the job at hand. First lets layout the similarities. Audio Phrases and Patches share the same characteristics in the following respects:

They both exist as RAM samples
Both can be copied to the clipboard and pasted between the either section at any time
All samples in either section will be in the MV's Sample Manager
Both have non-destructive editing.
* The option to replace or create a new sample is given when the editing is destructive

_____________________________________________________________________

"Partials or Assigned To Patch"

Partials are the (individual or layered) sounds that make up a patch. Samples assigned to Patches when they are to be played in either a rhythmic or melodic manner. This includes chopped samples , drums, or other instruments. Because these samples are meant to be played they have number parameters that allow you to manipulate their behavior. These parameters include the following and are not available to Audio Phrases:

LFO
Filters
Envelopes ( ADSR)
Output Assign
Layering via Sample Mix Table (SMT)

_____________________________________________________________________

Audio Phrase

Audio Phrases are not really for a sound that's being played like an instrument although you can do that to a limited degree. Audio Phrases are primarily for longer duration sounds that need to triggered but not necessarily played. Such sounds could be recoded riffs , exported daw stems, drum/music loops, vocal sections, sound FX, Intro/Outros, artist tags and drops, or captured sections from the MV's Audio Tracks.

What really sets Audio Phrases apart is that ,unlike partials , they are really just chunks of audio waiting to be triggered. Outside of tuning and direction , there are no parameters dictating key or sonic behavior like with a partial. Audio Phrases do have unique properties in the edit mode that makes them perfect for their intended purpose over using a Patch. These include the following:

3 different Pad Play modes ( Gated ,Trigger, Drums)
BPM sync for real-time timestretch
Can be chopped and re-chopped at will. The newly chopped section can then be assigned to any patch or back to the Audio Phrase section.
Entire Audio Phrases can be dropped instantly into an Audio Track regardless of length via step record
Sections of a recorded Audio track can be made into new Audio Phrases.

_____________________________________________________________________
Common Questions

:?: Why can't I chop a partial or re-chop a pad?

 You can. Follow these steps

1. Copy the instrument's pad to the clipboard and drop it to pad in the Audio Phrase section.
2. Use the CHOP tab and go to work. You'll notice that you only have to deal with the audio on the pad-not the entire sample.

* The sound can't be re-chopped as an instrument because of the many parameters that are always acting upon the sample. Moving it to the AP section makes it a just a clean pre-truncated chunk of audio.
_____________________________________________________________________

:?: How do I drop a entire vocal passage instantly without listening to the whole thing?
 SHIFT+REC  Step Time + Phrase  Hit the pad and your done

Re: Pros and Cons?

Postby 14K on Tue Dec 16, 2008 4:27 am
Both modes have their features, tricks and functions! So really there's no Pro's & Con's because you have the best of both worlds in 1 machine and they both work together! Image Quick Example: I may not have but 5 songs in a project, but I might have over 300 patterns that could easily be made into 300 songs! So now you have so many beats with little load time, that the main advantage!! I use pattern mode all the time as well as song mode, so let me break it down another way than I did in my previous thread! Here's just a few main differences:

Song Mode:
1. You have more Audio Tracks.
2. You have 128 possible midi tracks.
3. You can add a Pattern Track.
4. You can use a tempo map to change the BPM during the song.
5. You are limited to less songs within a project compared to patterns.
6. You can highlite selected tracks & regions of song and copy them to pattern mode.

Pattern Mode:
1. You can have up to 500 patterns (or virtual songs really).
2. You can set the pattern parameter to make the pattern's bars long or short.
3. You only have 1 audio track. **(READ BELOW on my answer for that).
4. You can assign patterns to pads and audition your song arrangements.
5. You can use all patterns in song mode and still have many available tracks (Audio & Midi).
6. You can easily copy a pattern to another pattern and solo or add changes.

GOOD NEWS: THEY BOTH WORK TOGETHER!

When I sit down and power-on the MV, I go straight to pattern mode. Then set the length for 4, 8, or 16 bars and just play hard! It's basically like song mode anyway! I've got 500 patterns to play with, so I'm kinda loose and experimental! I'm more serious in song mode! Really, pattern mode has 64 midi tracks....so nobody should feel limited! **Now about having only one Audio Track in pattern mode.....Just lay down your 1st groove with the audio sample. Then start or copy a new pattern with a new audio track or the other part of the groove you've got going! Make as many pattern tracks as you need to finish out the groove! You can have a 1 bar pattern or 48 bar pattern whatever you need!

When you assign the patterns to pads...it will all come together and you can audition your pattern sequence before going to song mode. When you take your pattern to song mode you can stutter the pattern to give it the remix sound.....or CHOPPED & SCREWED the latest slang term! You can do all of your solo's, automation mutes, or whatever in pattern mode....then when you take it to song mode....the foundation and work is ready for 128 more midi track, plus audio tracks!! That's POWERFUL!!!

Sometimes I'll "RESAMPLE" a simple 2 bar drum pattern that I made, then put it on a pad making it play backwards. Then when I have the main pattern going in song mode...I'll make it flip backwards at certain parts of the song! Man, friends of mine get sooo amazed at what the MV can do!!!! It's all in the technique, and tricks though!

I could write a book on the difference between Pattern Mode & Song Mode  Just experiment and realize that you have both in one machine! No Pro's & Con's......just a powerful beast!!!

Tommy can you post this or get this to me?
I screwed up the middle part of this post on my iPhone notes app.

This tutorial will give some of you a better idea of what your MV is capable of in terms of routing and to show that outboard components are easily integrated with the MV. Most of have FX ,filters, and dynamics units we want to use so here's easy way to pull it off. No MV8-OP1 needed!

These are just the basics in plain talk but once you understand it you could see how pachtbay and a digital mixer could open up killer possibilities.

It's always good to know why something works as well as how. If you know this stuff just skip it. This is in no way a substitute for reading the manual! Anyway ,have fun.

Audio Tracks.

Audio Tracks cannot record to and play at the same time . Furthermore , Audio Tracks do not overdub, they overwrite. This is important because this characteristic means that a signal loop cannot be created-thus no feedback when you do your tracking of treated incoming audio.
*Any channels and/or sounds routed an Indiv.Out or Stereo pair are removed from the MIX output during playback.

Instrument Tracks

Instrument Tracks can be routed the same as Audio Tracks but they have extra Parameter called "Prtl." This setting allocates the routing of the instrument track to the pad level. This is important when you want total control over a patch's routing.

Pad Level Routing

When you hit Quick Edit the upper left area has an area that allows you to route every single pad to any available Ind.Output , Aux, or Stereo Pair . You can also control the send amount for Delay and Reverb for every pad individually. So you could send some sounds to the Mix, some to Aux, some outside of the MV to get mangled. In fact, the combination here are staggering-especially if the MV8-OP1 is installed.
The part's track must be set to "Prtl". In fact you can set up the pad routing to your like and toggle between Mix, multi, or Ind.Out as you need it.

Auxes (subgroups or buses)
Auxes share the same routing options as other channels except they have no EQ, but do have direct MFX access and an OFF setting at output.. The Auxes allow you to create an entire submix and then send it where you want. The Aux channels are the sum of all of the tracks, parts, or pads you route into it so instead working several faders you only have to worry about controlling one.
******************************
Input Channel

The Input Channel is always live. It has the ability to to integrate with the final mix while still maintaining the ability to send to the Reverb and Delay blocks. Digital or Analog, the output destination for the Input Channel is either the sample engine or Mix output depending on functions being performed.

Analog Out

The Analog Out is for the Mix/Master output only. The reason i mention this so that you'll see the stark contrast between the Digital outs and Analog Outs.

Digital Outputs ( SPDIF/Optical.

Most think that this is a duplicate of the Analog Outputs. Well, I'm happy to say that it's anything but. In fact, the only similarity is that the digital out can output the Mix. While that is the factory default setting it certainly isn't the only one! The Digital Output is actually fully assignable to carry any Stereo Pair, any Ind. Ofzut as part of a Stereo Pair , or the Mix output.

* Sounds,Tracks, Auxes routed to any Ind. output or Stereo pair are removed the from the Mix output. This does a great job of stopping signal loops and redundancy that causes cancellation and muddy sound.

** Anything routed 1,2,3,4,5...is sent to either the Left or Right Channel respectively. If you want the sound to appear on both left and right (or using a stereo sample) you must choose 1/2, 3/4 etc. matching the assignment given to the Digital Out.

R the digital output on the MV but an inexpensive converter is needed to use analog devices. You can also use devices such as DAT,CD Recorder, HD Recorder or any audio device that will convert Digital audio to Analog. The drawback is the adding of noise to the signal chain. This up to you.

** Expensive converters are a waste. Unless you just want to impress someone, a simple direct converter works great.

*** Remember , the MV digital output only carries one stereo pair at a time.1/2 ,3/4 ,5/6 or 7/8
DO NOT USE "MIX" -
The result is unusable phase canceled murky garbage.
DO NOT ROUTE THE "MASTER ANALOG OUT" BACK INTO THE MV! -

If you should need a basic DAC for your analog units, I suggest the Gefen. It's less than $80 and it does the job well. It's cheap because it's a simple in and out conversion with no controls, chassis, meters, or options. Here are the specs and the webpage.
http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4907
Specs: * Converts digital audio S/PDIF or TOSLink signals to analog L/R signals
* Integrated digital interpolator filter and digital-to-analog convert (DAC)
* Accepts uncompressed digital audio input
* Samples at 32, 44.1, 48 and 96 KHz
* 2-channel LPCM (Linear Pulse Code Modulation)
* 24-bit S/PDIF incoming bitstream on left and right channels
* Compact and easy to install

What would be awesome is NNITRED's mv-8800 vs mv-8000 comparison. I keep seeing people posting that the only difference is the 8800 has zero point crossfading. There were a dozen or so tiny differences that have become lost to time.
