1000% Price Increase for SDZ Sound Packs?

Post by pianoman41 »

For hardware versions of the SDZ packs, the two newest (SDZ101 and SDZ102) are listed at $9.99 for a lifetime key through RC. Previous sound packs were $0.99 for a lifetime key. Granted, these new packs have twice the number of patches as the previous SDZ packs (32 vs 16), but a 10X price increase is just simple greed. I've bought every one available up to this point but I won't be buying any more if this is the future...........

Hi, pianoman41! Brian from Roland Cloud here. Our first series of 100 Sound Packs have enjoyed low, introductory pricing following the initial launch of our ZEN-Core Synthesis System. This new series of Sound Packs goes further, offering double the content of the original series with 32 expertly crafted tones at competitive pricing. Thanks! 😊

Yep i'm out too! It was fun and fair while it lasted.

I paid over 3,5k for a synth/workstation wich should be future proof. Hate it when 'marketing-greed' kicks in.

Same feeling here as a new Fantom owner :(

Didn't realize that buying an expensive Fantom 7 would open the door to some DLC hell straight out of mobile gaming. Bitter experience...

Do they ever run Black Friday or Christmas promotions?

I'm actually of a different mindset in this case. I know that the Fantom boards are a steep price, but I don't expect a developer (and let's face it, Roland is a small target hardware and software developer) to provide me with expanded features for free. Updates, yes. But isn't the new sound packs, models, etc., an expansion of the system? Were they promised to be released at a later date when you bought your board? And didn't they make the first 100 of these sound packs free?

I've spent more than $200USD on VSTs in the past year, easily. For what Roland Clan provides you access to, the price seems a good deal - and with "core" you can't really go wrong. Plus you have the option to purchase a lot of that content directly rather than subscribe.

I don't know. I don't see it as greed. I do see it as Roland having to change their operating model, and good for them in driving in a new direction. Plus you have access to the new sounds now, (sort of) when they're ready - rather than having to wait for them to come out with a new board.

I don't like that everyone is wanting to pick my pocket every month - but I think the Roland Cloud is now a decent deal.

Hi, kitsune! Brian from Roland Cloud here. I do use the Cloud and I'll tell you all about why I love it, but I prefer to stick to one account to do it. 😆

I don't - yet. I'm getting my Fantom-06 tonight, so I will start to look around. However, Brian from Roland might be able to provide some insight?
