Is there a way to import wav files to create a new zen-core sound?

Post by fivestones »

I want to be able to record sounds and put them on my RD-88 so when I play the keys, the sound(s) I recorded play from the keyboard.

Is this possible? Roland is making lots of zen-core sounds. How are they made? I have tried out Zenology Pro but I don't see any way to load wav files there--you can only tweek already-made sounds as far as I can see.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Hi, fivestones! Brian from Roland Cloud here. Great question. The RD-88 is not capable of loading custom audio samples, but it can load many of the Zencore sound packs and expansions. Here's a full list of the compatible content for the RD-88. Thanks!

If the RD-88 is not capable of loading custom audio samples, how is it that when a new wave expansion sound is produced by someone at Roland (and has a size of >100 MB and so is obviously including audio samples) it is able to be loaded on the RD-88?

There's no contradiction there. The RD-88 is capable of loading new Roland-supplied audio samples but it is not capable of loading custom audio samples (i.e. non-Roland samples, samples of your own). Roland does not supply software that would permit you to use the RD-88's expansion memory in that way. Whatever internal tools they have for supporting RD-88 sample expansions are not available to the public.

The FA is the same way... you can load wave expansions from axial, but you can't load your own keyboard-playable wave expansions. The Juno DS permits both, but with different dedicated memory allocations. You can load one downloadable wave expansion from axial, and you can also load keyboard-playable user samples. But each chunk of expansion memory is addressed separately. You can't use the wave expansion area instead for more user samples, nor can you use the user sample memory to load additional axial sounds.

I've found one source of Zen Core sounds outside of the official Roland Cloud site: https://www.natlifesounds.com/product-c ... -zen-core/

I haven't purchased / installed any of the three "sound banks" they offer because they are relatively expensive (25 - 32 euros) when compared to the price of a Sound Pack on Roland Cloud (1 US dollar). For someone who has a need for these sounds, the price is very reasonable.

My main point is that someone outside of Roland has figured out how to create a new Zen Core sound which is good news in my book.

There's no special trick to creating new Zen Core sounds, the trick is creating them out of your own samples. I don't see any indication that the sound packs you linked to do that.
