Help Bulk Load syx file on D-50

Post by jimk »

Help! I can't get Bulk Load to work.

My setup:

PND50-00.syx from bobbyblues
MIDI-OX and D-50 Librarian
USB20Midi USB to Midi interface
PC Win7 Pro with conventional quad processor....nothing fancy.

Connection: USB20Midi from PC's USB port to the USB20Midi and the Midi "OUT" connector to the D-50 midi "IN"

The software seems to send the data without issue. Shows complete when done.
The USB20MIDI "OUT" LED shows output traffic when transmitting

D-50 settings:
Protection: OFF
MIDI Channel 1
Omni: On
Control: B CH
SepCH: 13
Local: ON
Prog.C: ON
Exclu: ON

When I hold down the TRANSFER button throughout the process, the D-50 display changes - showing [Bulk Load.0] instead of [Bulk Load]. The letter "O" in LOAD is replaced with 4 small horizontal lines that together make the shape of the letter "O".

Multiple attempts and settings all produce: MIDI Communication Error

If I change the D-50 MIDI channel, I just get the "WAITING" message during dump.

I tried different values in the MIDI-OX Sysex SEND Configure screen (or D-50 Librarian). Little or no effect.....just ends up MIDI Communication Error on the D-50.

And that's where I am. I went back and tried the different configuration settings in the MIDI-OX (or D-50 Librarian)....to random values and everything comes up MIDI Communication Error.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jim

I wrote this for someone who was having trouble with their U-220.
Might help:

I've also experienced the MIDI Buffer Full error when trying to Xfer sysex to Roland gear. If you run into this, check the settings in Midi-Ox by the instructions below:

Many patch dumps are broken up in to smaller blocks of sysex data.
So you can wait between blocks of data by...
View/Sysex...
On the Sysex window menu option Sysex/Configure...
On this dialog there is a box marked 'Delay' on the right.

Increase this value to give the buffer time to clear.
Mine is usually around 50 to 100.
It is the number of milliseconds between blocks.

Hope this helps.
