JUNO-Di, usb connection and Linux
Re: JUNO-Di, usb connection and Linux
And that's fine! Enjoy your JUNO

If Sony ever releases a Mac version of Acid, I'll consider making the change. Until then, I'm a PC man.
Re: JUNO-Di, usb connection and Linux
Dear RolandClan_LCN, Dear Linux users,
YOU CAN USE YOUR ROLAND JUNO-DI AS MIDI KEYBOARD ON LINUX
Solution is very simple: Press MENU button on your synthesizer, go to MIDI tab, switch USB Driver to "Generic" and reboot your instrument - after plugging usb cable you'll be able to use your Roland as midi keyboard - NO need to buy midi interface! NO need to install any drivers!
Of course, you'll get only midi keyboard functionality, not patch editing as there's no proper software for this (read: Roland is not kind enough to care about Linux users).
Hope that helps you

Hello Tails
Unfortunatelly, I've just read your reply from my Office. Of course, my Juno is at home so I'll try your tip this evening.
To Admin: What about creating a group "Linux" in the forum as you created both ones for Windows and Mac? We could collect information in the right place couldn't we?
Edit:
Many thanks Tails! I could use my Juno with Rosegarden last evening!

Re: JUNO-Di, usb connection and Linux
If you discuss using a Roland instrument with a Linux PC, this belongs to the relative instrument forum, like in this thread's case.
The dedicated Mac, iOS and Windows forums are for using these platforms alone for music/audio tasks. As there are not a lot of software for Linux in this respect, I am not sure we need this section. Although maybe if we count Android in, there are many great music/audio apps for it. We'll think about it

Re: JUNO-Di, usb connection and Linux
Its a bit off, but linux for audio/video is a very little segment.
As You see in this page the "other" OS-s like Haiku (BeOS) and QNX, etc. has almost the twice REAL users than Linux (using audio-video related softwares).

So making an "Other OS" would be a better choice, imho.
Did You know that Roland/Edirol had BeOS as its operating system running on the DV7DL ?

If You like OSX You should take a look at this vmware image and try it out.

Hi,
the Juno-Di Editor/Librarian works under Linux, too.
- Connect the USB- or MIDI-Cable
- Install "wine" on your Linux distribution
- Install the Juno-Di editor
Remember to turn the DI on before starting the editor.
