Fantom XR internal synth sampling

Can the Fantom XR sample the internal synth directly to the CF internally or does it requiring looping the various outputs options back into the device and recording it that way? I haven't read the manual in any great depth so I'm uncertain and curious. I have a Fantom XR I recently bought coming in around a week. How usable is the Fantom XR if the screen isn't working properly is it easy enough to control it's fully functionality from the software librarian and CC midi control or will you run into some serious issues!!? Like it seems the screens have a lot of issues from what I'm seeing. It's almost a prevalent trend with a great deal of Roland synths sadly actually.
