Does anyone know of a link documenting the file format? Or interested in helping to reverse engineer it? I asked Roland, but they said no such official information is available and wouldn't send me any

Very very very good question... If since 2010 you have an answer, I would be interested 🎹... Same thing for .SHE of course.

There's also a "KoaDataFile" thing in the .bin files they are using for SYSTEM-1 and PLUG-OUT presets. But of course, no information on those file formats either. However, there might be a way forward since the presets you can "back up" via USB are plain text. So I guess one can at least in theory find out more about the format.
