rhythm set as multisample set?

Hello, if I understand correctly, when I want to sample my own el. guitar note by note chromatically (dry, into my DAW as separate WAVs and then import those into 808) it is not possible to make the normal patch of it but only rhythm patch (set)? If so, with the external MIDI keyboard I won't be able to trigger more than 16 notes right? Also, the problem is for the rhythm patch I cannot find info in the manual how to make the samples to stop playing after the key release. Is the one shot (it plays the samples till its end regardless the key release) the only way?
