Hi everyone,
I just registered for this forum after reading and learning for the last weeks.
Since my wife and I set our mind on a Jupiter 80 I read this forum to learn from users.
A small introduction.
I live in The Netherlands (near Amsterdam) with my wife an two cats.
The Oxygene album inspired me as a kid and gave me the desire to make (electronic) music.
A casio VL-tone was my first real instrument and after years of experimenting and playing with a C64 and several Casio keyboards, we bought our first real synth in the beginning of this century (Yamaha CS6x).
We now have a nice home studio with some very nice instruments.
Through the years we had some Roland stuff.
The first Roland gear was a CDX-1 disclab followed by a D2 groovebox.
The VariOS (+VC-1 and VC-2), MC-808 and SH-201 is our present Roland gear.
Very soon we hope to add a Jupiter 80 to our setup. The SH-201 will leave our setup, because I think the JP80 will make it redundant and we also need the space in our studio.
I hope to learn from this forum and share my experiences.
regards
Tom

Welcome to RC Tom :)
This is a great place for practical learning about Roland products - unlike other forums that prefer to tell you how bad any equipment you might have is!!
I am sure that you will enjoy creating music and sounds with your JP-80 when you get it. It really is very easy to use and the sounds are a joy.
For me the only weakness is sound management. We need a librarian because if you add up all the OS v1, v2, analog synth library and the Synth Legends sounds, there's not enough room for them all! Plus there is no way to name backups (backups not exports which are two different things) so you can't have subsets of sound libraries to call up.
Other than that the 'board is a joy to use and will offer you and your wife endless musical creativity.
Enjoy! :)

Thanks Cello.
I already learned a lot on this and forum about the JP-80.
It's hard to find good and objective information about this synth.
On a lot of places on the net the discussion looks more like Roland bashing than a serieus discussion about the abilities of this instrument. It took me a while to realize that the JP-80 what potential the JP has.
Even on the Dutch Synthforum, one of the most active synth communities on the net, there is a discussion for over 500 replies, which is actually more about the name than about it's capabilities.
Good demo's are also not easy to find in my opinion.
Most demo's are about the Super Natural Acoustic tones, which are great, but I am more interested in the Super Natural Synth. Roland seems to neglect this side of the JP-80.
I can't wait to explore it myself!

Regarding the Demos, in fact they are mainly devoted to the SN-Acoustic tones, but the SN-Synth part is IMHO not neglected, as it was even the only one that you can control from the Synth itself or from an iPad
I found this interview with Bernie Smith (Take that), where he demos only SN-Synth tones

Here's another very basic and didactic one...

Hi Tom. Greetings from Texas!
It is great that you were wise enough to not take any of the negative tripe and opinionated bilge bandied about on the net about the Jupiter-80 seriously. The architecture takes some getting used to, and the MIDI implementation is a bit bizarre, but once you get used to it, the real reason for having it becomes clear...the SOUNDS!
Enjoy the JP-80 and welcome to the Clan,
