hi
sorry if this has been asked before. i couldn't find any information on this, so maybe someone has an answer?
is the juno-g compatible with the fantom xa?
i mean can you use sounds created on the xa in the juno-g? do songs created on the xa sound the same when loaded into the juno g's sequencer?
i am thinking of getting a juno g once it comes out and was wondering if i could use stuff i made on the xa with the juno.
thanks
martin
compatibility fantom xa/juno-g
Re: compatibility fantom xa/juno-g
Juno-G is fully compatible with the Xa, with an exception that it cannot use/create multisamples out of your custom samples. Otherwise, all song data, patches, kits, effects etc. will sound 100% the same, as they share the same synthesizer engine.
Re: compatibility fantom xa/juno-g
While I'm reading both Juno-G and Fantm Xa manuals looks like
they are almost same keyboards with different look.
I don't see only "Skip Back" feature in juno-g, do you know if its there under different name or so?
That multisamples limitation is big lack or not?
thanks

" looks like they are almost same keyboards with different look. "
Yes, but I emphasise on "almost".
"I don't see only "Skip Back" feature in juno-g, do you know if its there under different name or so? "
As I know there is no Skip-Back on the Juno.

If you do not plan building your own multi-samples, then you won't lack it.

Re: compatibility fantom xa/juno-g
thanks for clarification.
I am trying to compare these two boards to find out if its worthy to wait for juno-g release or pay almost 400$ more for Fantom Xa now. Do you know of any feature which juno has and fantom xa doesn't?
For now look like juno-g is better choice anyway.
thanks

Art,
If both the Juno-G and Fantom Xa have 64mb of internal wave ROM, and the Juno-G has a new piano, then maybe the internal wave ROM is not exactly the same. This is something I've been wondering about. May require a call to Roland.

Re: compatibility fantom xa/juno-g
Tim, the Juno-G has the same wave set as Xa, plus maybe a few waves were compressed to take some new waves like classic Juno sounds. As I know, these were actually appended to the bank A, this means Juno-G will read all patches based on bank A of Fantom-S/X/Xa.
Re: compatibility fantom xa/juno-g
Hmmmm. Interesting. If they compressed some more, then the Juno-G will not sound exactly like the Fantom Xa. For example I have an RD-300 SX piano and although it uses Rolands same piano sounds, I think they are compressed more. That makes it sound not as good.
If it has 100% compatibility with Fantom Xa and Fantom S, then ALL of the waves would have to be there, UNLESS they substituted some piano waves in which case the patches that use them would sound different (hopefully better).
This is something that needs to be checked out with Roland.
Ignore my other post on this.
Thanks!

Re: compatibility fantom xa/juno-g
Tim, if you take 1 partial out of a 20-partial piano multisample, this will make virtually no difference even to a very sensitive ear, but will be enough for placing 3-4 multisamples of raw waves (these take 15-20 KB only). So I do not think the Juno's piano will sound less good compared to S/Xa.
Re: compatibility fantom xa/juno-g
This will be really interesting to see once the unit hits the stores, or a wave list is published.
